getting close to finally finish mounting my new takacat dingy!

This took longer then I had hoped for with 90 degree weather in Seattle causing glue issues! ( Waypoint marine did the glue work with my instructions on where to place it) glad they did it as they had to remove part of the manufactures name plate to get the pad to adhere.

so far looks good. just need to bend the weaver brackets to accommodate the angle of the standoff arms and we are done. I think with the weaver davits mounted on the outside rather than inside it gives me more height and should miss the wake.
the dingy is so light I can just grab the rope on the starboard tube and pull it up. No winch required. as a catamaran there is no floor to get punctured as the seperate inflatable floor rests above the water

Looks like a good safe install. Well done. 🙂

However, I have to say I do not like that it obstructs rear view significantly and could pose issues for you during docking activities.

Also, I like to look to the rear to see what my stern wave is up to and your dinghy blocks visibility to view this wave activity.

Also, that vertical surface will be a big/huge aerodynamic drag on the boat's forward motion.

Mind you, boating is about compromises.... 😉

To clear the wake you may need to cut and splice in a 4" vertical section in the swim platform stand offs - this had made all the difference in resolving the majority of the wave/wake catching problems of our weaver mounted RIB. I sincerely wish Cutwater would raise the swim platforms to be flush with the cockpit entrance door sill...for so many reasons including drag at mid speed ranges.

I just bought a Zodiac Fastroller 285. The weight is a more manageable 77 lbs as compared to the 165 lb RIB that came with the boat. I like to be able to take off the dingy and store it without having to resort to a trailer.

Do you have any pictures of this. Are you raising the davit heads up on the swim platform 4"? I agree the platform raised up would help performance and help spray issues with dingy's mounted using weaver system. I start getting spray at 15mph not bad in calmer water but when it is choppy it is worse. I thought about making some removable 4" shims to raise the davit heads up 4" when we are doing long range cruising in open water. Then remove the shims when in the harbor or when protected water and slow cruises are planned so raising and lowering the Rib on the platform is easier.

The 4" extension I speak on is stainless steel plate cut and welded into the vertical section of the removable "posts" that slide into the brackets mounted permanently on your swim deck. I haven't figured out how to post pics here. Any TIG welding shop should be able to do it. The modified post looks completely normal, you can't tell its modified, and zero rust or other issues after five years. Also, rest assured clipping in and out of the davits is still straightforward. If I'm in the dinghy I just shift my weight slightly outboard and the tube next to the davit rises enough to make it a completely normal snap in. I would say that the additional height of the mounted RIB is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things - a blocked view on way or the other, we just make dropping it back into the water Job 1 when we anchor.

It looks like the 4" risers are already in use on this install. An additional 4" would likely make it hard to clip on and off. I'm thinking moving the oar will make a big difference. Has that been tested yet? Lifting the dink a bit further with ratcheting straps may help a little as well.

yes I have the 4 inch risers. any higher would make it difficult.

I have removed the oar. its better but any time any cross swell hits the boat it causes the spray. also any time the boat leans; turn induced or unbalanced trim, the spray hits the dingy.

the force doesnt seem crazy high as its not solid green water but spray so it may not be that bad, I think some sort of blinkers/spray guards would be good. but this is really getting a little complicated.

would be great to see your photo's pleeson. send them to me and I will post if you can't manage it.

removed the oar and its much better but quite a bit of spray. I dont think the load from the spray is that high so im currently not too worried. I will be rolling from Elliot bay to La conner in a few weeks so that will be a good test.

thought Id circle back on this post with an update about use with the standard high risers from weaver 4". there is some spray hitting the dinghy but no issue with running at speed in the Cutwater.
