We searched high and low for a wall mounted rack for our galley but did not find one that met our needs. So, I built this one. It hold 6 plates, 6 bowls, 6 cups, a roll of paper towels, has a spice rack, has 2 spots for silverware, has a spot behind the cups for long handle utensils and two drawers. Made it out of some teak flooring I milled down. We purchased Corelle square bowls and plates because of the durability and low profile stacking capability. I am aware of the stovetop vs. flammable materials opinions, but I feel there is enough space for this to be safe. There are more photos of this project in my photo album.

Fantastic!!!!!! We are looking to build something similar for the wee 21 EC behind the helm seat and will copy parts of your design. Thanks for sharing this. I love the sign. Will be copying that as well!

Copy away! I have several mods to post on here and I have copied a couple from other Tugnutters. I'll put some more up as I have time.

Beautiful. We have a 2019 R-29CB and unfortunately there is no place in the galley to mount this.

Awesome job Bryan!

Impressive! When are you going to start taking orders? 😀

Brian,
Very nice design and execution. I have bought some shelves which I intend to install in the same place. How did you secure the cabinet to the bulkhead(wall)? Did you through bolt it? How thick is the wall?

Thanks,

On my R25 Classic I had made a similar rack and used 1/2" screws with maybe 1/4" penetration into the bulkhead. With the 4 screws attaching the rack there's enough shear strength provided by the 4 screws to be more than enough to sustain the rack loaded up with goodies.

Be aware that all the things you screw to the cabin walls etc are likely to be left as-is when you sell the boat because new owners will not like seeing exposed screw/bolt holes all over the place.

Bob, I used 3/4 inch screws. They only go 1/2 inch into the bulkhead.

Baz, I agree. All mods stay with the boat. Each piece is custom for this tug and I intend to leave them in place. I also have no intention right now of selling or trading up. The size of the 27 is perfect for us and the amount of trailering we do. I did a ton of mods on my last boat (a sailboat) and I had no issues accepting that once installed they stay. That was practice for this tug.... and maybe this is practice for the next one

You wouldn't happen to have any dimensional drawings saved that you'd be willing to give /sell to other people interested in reproducing your work? You've got a great design there and I'd love to make one of my own.

I bought a teak dish and cup/glass holder varnished it and the above it I also installed a paper towel and spice rack holder. Each rack has a solid back and three quarter screws are fine. I believe the bulkhead is 3/4 plywood. One issue with the paper towel rack is it will only handle small rolls 6” diameter, I think, I use Viva brand. The dish rack holds five plates, two diner size and three salad, and two soup bowls. I added an stainless steel splash guard on the bulkhead, shimmed away from the wood for grease splatters, makes clean up easier, and heat dissipation . I was concerned about the heat on the under side of the rack so I placed aluminum faced tape (used on AC ducts), on the bottom. The only issue I have had is reaching for the plates with both burners blazing, it’s super hot! 😱 Oh I also stuffed a pot holder between the bowls and plates to stop them from rattling. I bought the racks from Defender Industries.

Wolfboy, Sorry I don't have plans or drawings. I would be happy to share dimensions or more photos if you wish. This was just a measure and make project. The only other helpful thing i have is the rough plywood one I built for measurements and fit.

Alice J, I like the pot holder idea - stealing it if needed.

HaHa! We stuff a pot holder between the plates too. Works great!
