fender board

Looking to see if anyone uses a fender board when they are docking at pilings. Saw a article in Boat U.S. about making one.
Do you have one or two & how long? I think I would use a 2" thick board & drill the holes thru the 2" thick side.

I made fender boards using 3” PVC pipe. I cut them to 5’ so they fit on the cabin roof or in the cave on my 25SC. Drill through the pipes and thread some thin nylon line through, attach SS clips to each end so they quickly attach to the fender lines. I’ve used them for about 4 years and they have done battle with the NY locks and various pilings. They are strong but light in weight compared to a 2” board. Pic in my photo album.

If making your own out of wood, I would use 1 x 4, not 2 inch thick. 2 inch will be heavier, and have less spring in it. A little spring will make for less noise when bumping against the pilings.

I did the PVC like Brian. They store between the roof's stainless hand rails perfectly and hold my wash brush, rod, etc. Just pack with rags so items stay put.
