Hello Dave n Chris, it will be good to see you again. The list you placed your name on was given to me by Ryan. The official registration form with registration fee request will be emailed to everyone on my “request for more info” list within the next 2 weeks. When you and everyone else receives this email you’ll have to print the form off, fill out and return to me to become officially registered. We look forward to having this, our 4th, Rendezvous in ORILLIA.

You’re receiving this email as you are on the list to receive information for this summers Great Lakes Area Ranger Tugs/Cutwater Boats Rendezvous, being held in Orillia Ontario August 17-19. In the attached pdf file you’ll find the official registration form that you’ll need to print, fill out and return to me by May 25th. We have 30 slips being held for us, at the Port of Orillia, until June 1st—therefore the reason for the early registration deadline. If we fill the original 30 slips by then I will be able to ask for additional slips at that time, so earlier is better.

You DO NOT need to contact the marina for slip reservations for the August 17-19 dates, as I’ll provide the attendee list to them once registration is closed. When you arrive at the marina you’ll settle up with them then. Pay for 2 nights and get the third night free. If you are arriving before the Rendezvous starts or staying after you’ll need to make those reservation dates on your own, but not for the Rendezvous dates. The number for the marina is 705-326-6314

For those coming by land, Mark Renshaw/Irish Mist R29, has made arrangements to hold 10 rooms at the 5 star Champlain Waterfront Hotel. Mark obtained a $20 discount off room rates for us. The discounted rate is $169.00 King, $159.00 Queen. This is of course in Canadian dollars so for you US attendees this equates to approxiately $110/$120. If you call ask for Sandra and mention the rooms are being held under “Ranger Tugs”. The phone number is 705-259-5001.

As always if you having any questions please email me, post a question on Tugnuts or call me at 231-642-7625. If I do not answer please leave a message and I’ll return your call.

A few points of interest for those trailering to the Orillia area for our August 17-19 Rendezvous. Lefroy Harbour Resorts is a Ranger Tug dealer and sponsor of our Rendezvous. Lefroy is located about an hour from Orillia and will provide a travel lift for taking our boats off there trailers. They will do this for $50.00 in, $50 out and we can store our trucks and trailers at NO additional costs. Ryan, General Manager, mentioned that although they have no boat ramp to launch from that there is one not to far from Lefroy Harbour. If you're looking for a place to start or end your Trent Severn trip Lefroy's is located at 727 Harbour Street, Lefroy, Ontario and the phone number is 877-453-3769.

Thanks to those that have mailed in there registration forms, the official list is growing. If or when we get close to 30 boats for slips I'll post a reminder so you don't miss out. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email or call me at 231-642-7625. If I do not answer please leave a message and I'll return the call.

Speaking of Ryan at Lefroy, he has made contact with the Canal Operations of the Ontario Waterways and they have agreed to provide a speaker for our Rendezvous, to make a presentation on the Historic Trent Severn Canal System.

Thanks Jim.. I just wanted to add if anyone has ever had their boats lifted in or out at a marina $50 CDN ( around $37 USD ) is a gift. I paid $300 each way in Orillia.
That is a very generous offer by Lefroy.. Those of you who have had their boats loaded by a travel lift know that the lift is the best way to position the boat perfectly on the Trailer.

Thanks for the info on Lefroy, Jim. We will give them a call to see if they can accommodate our truck and trailer for a month. And thanks, Mark, for confirming how great a deal this is.

By the way, our boating plan after the Rendezvous is to continue on to the Trenton end of the T-S Waterway, then head up to Kingston and revisit the Rideau Canal. Does anybody else have such an interest?

We have a trailer without sling notches on the bunks. Do we know if LeFroy can easily deal with that situation, or if they will allow parking of the truck and trailer if we utilize the nearby ramp?

This post is to answer Gregg and Kates question yesterday but is important for everyone attending the Rendezvous who needs to launch and or store a truck or trailer.

Ryan, from Lefroy Harbour in Lefroy, has a travel lift only, no fork lift, therefore if your trailer does not have slots you'll need to ramp launch. There is a ramp called Monto Reno, just a short distance away from Lefroy's. There is also a ramp next to the marina in downtown Orillia. Mark Renshaw says folks do park there truck and trailers there overnight….your call. Lefroy will not charge for parking of our trucks and or trailers at Lefroy Harbour during the Rendezvous. If you are cruising before or after the Rendezvous they'll charge a modest fee of $20.00 per week for storage. Ryan also stated that the travel lift operates from 8 A.M. until 5 P.M., Monday thru Friday. If you plan on using the travel lift you should call Ryan to give him a heads up, some time a couple of weeks before our event. Ryan Stovold's number is 705-456-2120 ext 23. Lefroy's is a full service marina so they have slips to rent before or after the Rendezvous.

Here is a link from Google Maps. If you zoom in you can see the trucks with trailers parked, and the ramp.. There are always trucks parked there all summer but it is not secure and I do not think good for long term.. But for the rendezvous it would work fine. You can see it is a short walk from the docks.

For anyone on the fence about attending the Rendezvous, I wanted to let you know the location and the facilities at the marina are second to none.. You are a very short walk from lots of stores and restaurants. The facilities at the marina were all totally rebuilt and opened last year, the showers are like a 5 star hotel...

As some of you know the Trent Severn waterway links Orillia with Lake Ontario in one direction and Georgian Bay in the other. It is part of the Great Loop you hear of. So technically from Orillia you could boat to anywhere in the world... (You may want a bigger boat for the Atlantic crossing portion of that trip :) ) But you can boat to Florida and stay mostly in protected waterways except for a couple miles around Atlantic City. It really is the Gateway to the World !!

From Orillia you will be one day of boating and a few locks away from a lift lock in Kirkfield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9jMT9mm-UM
And in the other direction one day of boating and two locks from a Marine Railway at the Big Chute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTs7V-moy4E
Both of these exist nowhere else so this is a bucket list type of thing.
I have been on both many times and still enjoy going each year. I prefer the Marine Railway as there is more docking and it is prettier there I think.

Anyone who has any questions about the area please PM me. I will share what I know.
I have traveled a fair bit with my 29 and we always return to Orillia for the summer boating :)
I am looking forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones this year at the Rendezvous

Looking forward to August :)

Registration Update:

Since the last registration update we've doubled the number of people and boats attending and now stand at 16 couples, a significant increase. With only 2 weeks left on the original 30 slips being held for our Rendezvous we're over half way to filling this allocation of set aside slips. There are no guarantees we'll get any additional slips so please please please send your registration forms in before the end of May to secure dockage. After June 1st I'll ask for an additional allocation of slips but they made no promises if we'd get any or how many.

Here's who's coming, as of 5/13/18

Will Williamson-- York, Pa
Dwain Dumas and Jackie Hughes-- East Lansing, Mi
Hans and Rita Kamin-- Brechin, Ontario
Peter and Kirsten Gold-- Brechin, Ontario
Gregg and Kate Dohrer-- Justin, Texas
Tom and Pam Zimmerman-- Fowlerville, Mi
Mark Renshaw and Jodi Smith-- Orillia, Ontario
Jim and Lisa Favors-- Traverse City, Mi
Neil and Katy Provan--Kingston, Onatario
Paul, Thelma and Stephanie Pelland--ValCaron, Ontario
Allen and Lisa Dettorre--Medina, Ohio
Rodney and Lisa Waite--Cassadaga, New York
Jim and Lauren Gibson--Cayoga, Ontario
Dave and Donna Cook--Dorchester, Ontario
Todd and Anita Hittinger--Indianapolis, Indiana
Peter and Anne Miller--Tobermory, Ontario

The above is in addition to our sponsors: Lefroy Harbour's Paul Cornwell, Ryan Stovold and Stan Messenger; Fluid Motions Tim Bates and Global Marine Insurance.

If anyone has any questions you can post on this Tugnuts thread, PM me, email or call me.

Thanks Mark Renshaw for posting local knowledge about Orillia and the surrounding area.

Attendee numbers update and misc. Rendezvous info.

We have one final week to make the attendee list for "guaranteeing" a slip in Orillia. So if you are the fence please call or email me to let me know your intentions, so we can work something out. After June 1st I may or may not be able to still get slips at the marina but I certainly don't want you to miss out if no more get allocated for our Rendezvous. Remember you will pay for 2 nights dockage and get the third night free…more later on when and how to pay for dockage. We have added a presentation by the Trent Severn Waterway about the history of the waterway, which will be great info for those cruising it after our event.

We are up to 42 people, 4 by car, 18 boats and here they are:

Will Williamson-- York, Pa
Dwain Dumas and Jackie Hughes-- East Lansing, Mi
Hans and Rita Kamin-- Brechin, Ontario
Peter and Kirsten Gold-- Brechin, Ontario
Gregg and Kate Dohrer-- Justin, Texas
Tom and Pam Zimmerman-- Fowlerville, Mi
Mark Renshaw and Jodi Smith-- Orillia, Ontario
Jim and Lisa Favors-- Traverse City, Mi
Neil and Katy Provan--Kingston, Onatario
Paul, Thelma and Stephanie Pelland--ValCaron, Ontario
Allen and Lisa Dettorre--Medina, Ohio
Rodney and Lisa Waite--Cassadaga, New York
Jim and Lauren Gibson--Cayuga, Ontario
Dave and Donna Cook--Dorchester, Ontario
Todd and Anita Hittinger--Indianapolis, Indiana
Peter and Anne Miller--Tobermory, Ontario
Dave and Chris Margetts--Elliot Lake, Ontario
John and Eileen Highsmith--Pensacola, Florida
Chris and Cathy Voll--Kitchener, Ontario
