Just came back from a short hop and port trim tab cylinder has separated, like cylinder extended too far or blew out.

Trim tab hanging loose, large spring hanging on part of actuator on tab, top of cylinder still attached to transom, and still have fluid in reservoir.

Stbd side trim tab operates normally.

Will pullboat out of water next week, and call Bennett tech support.

Bill,
Bennet is very good with customer support and they even have YouTube videos on service. You probably need a new piston. Make sure you follow the install and use the clamp to keep the piston extended on installation.

Thanks Mike:

those videos are very helpful, and I did find this breakdown of the actuator:

http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Actuator_breakdown_and_options.pdf

Looking at the trim tab from the swim platform and feeling the top of the piston rod, It looks as though the top of the piston rod shaft broke off below the o-ring sleeves, and the large spring was sitting on the tab itself.

Will know more when I get boat out of the water; don't want to get in water at docks with all the electric cables around.

Funny, I just saw a hydraulic cylinder blow out on "Deadliest Catch"......

Hi, many have had trim tab issues, I suggest you talk to Andrew at Ranger factory. Also, do not use hatch/tab hydraulics, if you have then you most likely have contaminated the system with water and will need to flush system.

Good luck
Dave

Removed the failed trim tab actuator fairly easily with boat out of water. Had to disconnect port aft scupper drain hose and disconnect engine exhaust hose from thru-hull fitting.

picture shows end of actuator just popped off, and piston head sheared off with o-rings is still inside cylinder.

Bennett says they will ship new cylinder; great customer service.

Thinking about it, will completely drain and flush trim tab hydraulic system as it is more than likely contaminated with water.

Happy Labor Day to all!
