Kicker motor gas tank...and safety

I need some input on the safest way to transport the 3-gal gas tank for my 5hp 4-stroke. I fits nicely in the storage area beneath the rear seat of the R21-EC, but it concerns me that the back side of the electrical connector for the charger is there.

Thoughts?

If I'm transporting the Red Ranger on a trailer, I just put my three-gallon tank in my truck for safekeeping. When I am underway, however, I tie it to the swim step for ease of access to the trolling motor.

I would avoid putting it near any electrical connection or any metal that might create some sort of a spark.

I am in the process of building a generator stand and gas can storage for the swim platform... I has a 12" high cabinet in the bottom where the 6 gallon OB tank from West Marine slides in just perfectly ... The front of the cabinet is open for ventilation and the tank is restrained with a strap...

Above that is a 19" high cabinet for housing the generator (EU2000i)...
After a test run on the river with the generator strapped to the swim platform (and running the air conditioner on a 92 degree day - sweet) it was decided it needed to be raised above the platform to keep it dry underway...
At first I intended to slide the generator into the cabinet from the front same as the gas tank, but after roughing in the cabinet, I thought about it and decided to change to a top loader so that the generator is physically incapable of being ejected out the front opening in a hard roll if the tie down strap lets go for any reason...
The top of the cabinet has been changed from a fixed table top to a hinged box, 3" high... This raised the table top to a good height for being a work table or barbecue stand, whatever, and there is storage in the 3" box underneath and the whole top box side hinges to access the generator...

This is all roughed in and the tank and generator in place... Next I need to use the router to cut the openings for ventilation, choke lever, pull cord, exhaust, etc... The last step will be glassing the wood and painting...

Ahhh yes, 'finish' a project! An interesting concept... I think I read about someone who actually finished a project, once...

OK, all levity aside I have a couple of snaps of the roughed in stage... I will post them to my photo album as I don't know how to append them here... As I get along with the finishing stage I will add a couple of snaps...
