Fusion Radio power up failure

Postby Scuba Too on Fri Jan 11, 2019 4:35 pm

I have a 2017 R29 CB with a Fusion radio problem. It starts to power up with the splash page on the display but then goes dark after about 10-20 seconds. Garmin still sees it but I'm not able to play music through it. Has anyone seen this and/or have suggestions?

I would try pushing the power button and holding it in for 10 seconds the unit will then shut off and go thru a reset and then turn back on. I have to do this if I haven't used the radio for a while. The symptom I get is nothing functions but power is on. After reset all is good again.

My unit is a bit older, but I seem to remember there is a system reset button on the unit somewhere. Mine has a cd player. I think it was behind the face that you flip down to access the cd. You need to push it in and hold for a little bit. I did it a while ago on another owner's unit. Unfortunately the upshot was to replace it.

Perhaps brightness is turned down all the way
Difference between RVers and Boaters:
RVers move until they reach water, Boaters move until they reach land.
Ranger Tug owners can do both :)

I'll try checking the brightness the next time I'm on the boat, but it does seem like it simply shuts down after the initial two start up screens which are both quite bright. It's also in the forward berth and not in direct sunlight so I think I'd see it even if on the low end of backlighting. However I appreciate the idea!

My Fusion radio unit won't turn on and I have tried the following steps to no avail so I'm hoping someone has the magic solution. Here's What I've done so far.
Held the On button down for 10 seconds;
Checked the fuse, which was fine, but I replaced the fuse anyway:
Hit the Reset button on the back of the unit.

None of the above worked. Any ideas.

I don't know the location of the radio in the R29. If you can get access to the back of the radio confirm all connections are good. Next confirm that there is power going into the radio. Match the wire color at the fuse panel if applicable and test that wire for power using the ground wire going to the radio. If you have battery voltage there and all connections are good. I believe you have a bad radio if it doesn't turn on.
