Have a new 2010 R27 OB with 3 fire extinguishers that will need to be located somewhere. This is the time of the year for new boat winter projects before she gets launched. Would like suggestions as to where other owners have located extinguishers. Thinking is one in forward cabin, one near helm, one near dinette? If picture available would be a great help.

Thanks,

I physically mounted my (3) extinguishers since the USCG inspection differentiates between "mounted" vs on-board.

I placed (1) forward in v-berth on the forward face of the teak cabinet panel, port side. The second extinguisher was mounted at the forward inside opening to the cave, closest to the aisleway. The 3rd unit is on the starboard side of the center locker on the underside of the deck panel (if a fire occurred at the outboard motor, that panel in the up position might help as a heat shield).

When mounted, rather than loose on-board, they're always where you expect them to be at critical times.

Thanks Doghouse 2. Appreciate the information. Not sure about the 3rd location but will review. You make a great case.
Again thanks

Hi Bob - Do you happen to have any pictures of these mounting locations?

Thanks, John

Hi All, going to mount a extinguisher just inside the cave and will have to drill holes through the white carpet like liner and the thin fibreglass wall. Drilling from the cave, means the drill bit will come out through the gel coat finish from the back. Will this be a issue, ie gel coat cracking. Thanks in advance.

Canuck 27: If I was going to drill the way you describe: I would do it with a very small pilot hole and then drill the size you want for your through bolt from the gel coat side. You should use a counter sink bit, with the drill run in reverse, to make the hole in the gel coat slightly larger than what you are going to drill through the structural fiberglass to avoid any spider cracks radiating from the hole in the gel coat. My 2 cents worth.
