I have an R-27 and recently replaced my oil with Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 Full Synthetic oil.

Can someone make the argument as to why I should not have done that?

Best,

Nope...
Just bought another ten gallons of the stuff for the diesel engines here - getting some ready to put away for the winter and getting some ready for the winter...

From what I have read on this and other websites, Rotella is the best oil to use on any diesel engine (boats, trucks, cars, tractors, etc.). Just as long as you use the proper weight and spec, you should be fine and Yanmar cannot complain. I also use the Rotella 30w in my gear box. I get mine at Walmart. It is much cheaper there.

I use Mobil One and also get it from Walmart. It is close to $2.00 per quart cheaper. Shell Rotella has a great reputation with diesel engines. As long as it is synthetic and meets the Yanmar specs you are golden.

These are the specs in current (2008) downloadable BY manual. It's possible that API and ACEA catagories might have changed since then, but they're always backward compatible.

Looks like you're good to go.

Lots of folks don't own the stuff their name is on! Look at QualCom Stadium as a nearby example!
