I’m taking a 2012 r27 for a sea trial tomorrow apparently it surges above 3200 rpm any view points on the 180 Yanmar

Our 150hp Yanmar has been reliable so far with 600 hours on it. Following scheduled maintenance is important IMHO. Just need to keep coolant full. The 150hp Yanmar is the same engine as the 180hp except for the ECU or whatever the “brain” is called. Having good engine grounding is critical!

On the tongue and cheek side be sure the following parts are in good order:
Carburation sensor
Fuel injector bearing
Black box pigment
Suspension hooks
Muffler bearings
Transmission Relay
Radiator fin SRU
Flux capacitor
Turbo encabulator
Johnson rod

Most of these parts are available at kalecoauto.com

Parts were difficult to obtain during my last extended outage. The engine is a bmw base that I was told is no longer built. I can’t find anyone in south Florida to work on the engine control module.

My engine is smooth, starts easily and is economical but has experienced two extended outages I’ve paid thousands to authorized shops (different) only to be left to fix it myself.

If you are handy and limber, this is a good deal on a boat we love. Kind of like an angry brother.
