Cabin Wall Colth Discoloration

Postby JerryJohnEagle on Fri Jun 29, 2018 11:47 am

Good Morning,
I have a question regarding the discoloration of the white cloth covering the walls in our 2008 Ranger R25 cabin. We are seeing various spots of brown, grey and light black in the V-berth and the Cave walls. We keep the cabin well ventilated and use a multitude of air moisture bags and containers, We see no signs of moisture except in the bags or containers.
I have pictures of this but I am not able to understand how to attach an image to this message.
Any thoughts or ideas on what is happening? if so what can we do to clean up this cloth?
Thank you again for all you help and we look forward to your response.
Sincerely
Jerry Eagle

The two popular choices for cleaning it are OxyClean or Clorox. The Oxy seems to take off the brown stuff fine but not so well with the black/grey stains.

It would be helpful if you could post a photo or two showing the brown/gray/black stains. I say this as these marks may have nothing to do with moisture and/or mildew. It could be that some diesel soot residue is creeping in from the engine bay into the cabin and V-berth.

When I had my 2010 R-25 (Classic) I had black streaks coming in from the hull sides of the V-berth's aft bulkheads. These bulkheads were covered with white monkey fur so cleaning the black smudges was not easily done. I ended up removing the bulkhead panels on either side (they are split down the middle and held together with tape on their backsides) by folding them in two after removing the screws. I then took them to the RT Kent factory where they were kind enough to recover them with the smooth perforated vinyl. When I re-installed the bulkhead panels I also placed a sealant between their edges and the hull side. This did resolve the issue of having black smudges which I had determined came from the engine bay's burnt diesel fuel residues that inevitable circulate in that area.

Oxyclean and a strong wetvac cleaned out 2010 R25 quite well.

If you use Clorox, which I have used, be sure to make sure in the v-berth that you wipe it clean with a fresh water rag and let it dry thoroughly, especially if yo store your clothes on the ledge. Don't ask how I know! I now have several tie dyed shirts and pants.
