Hi All
A couple months ago we posted that my wife and I were considering buying a Ranger R-21 EC in Florida. Since that time we have received delivery of new our boat. This information may be helpful for anyone considering buying a 2009 Ranger Tug R-21EC.

First of all I wish to express my thanks to some people for their help. At Ranger Tugs: The entire staff but especially Jeff Messmer and Andy Custis also Tom Ray and the owners of Gulf Island Sails in Punta Gorda, Florida. Without their help and expert advise we would not have bought our new Ranger Tug R-21EC.

We took a test ride with Tom Ray of Gulf Island Sails in Charlotte Harbor Florida on a chilly day in January. That ride convinced us that we had found the boat that we were looking for! We custom ordered our boat to get the exact options that we wanted: Aft cockpit surrey top with Sunbrella, Air Conditioning, Anchor package, Bow Thruster, Garmin GPS 540S and Green Gel coat color! Note: We also had the dealer (Gulf Island Sails) install a second bilge pump as a backup.

We received delivery of our boat on March 7th and immediately took it for a Sea trial with Tom Ray. Blessed with perfect weather, we traveled south through Lemon Bay on the Inter Coastal Waterway. After about an hour we stopped for lunch at “The Fishery” (a waterfront restaurant). All systems worked flawlessly. We discovered only couple very minor issues related to damage (a hole in bug screen and damaged anchor). These issues are being resolved under warranty. Tom was very helpful and generously shared his wealth of knowledge and helpful tips with us.

On the following weekend, we christened our boat “Promise”. Next we set out on our maiden solo voyage. This time we traveled North through Lemon Bay on the Inter Coastal Waterway. Less then five minutes after leaving our dock we met a white Ranger R-21 heading south. We could not resist giving the horn a blast as we exchanged thumbs up! A little later, a pair of dolphins thrilled us by playing around and repeatedly swimming under our boat.

Later, in the day we headed to the dock and discovered that the closed cabin had climbed to 96 degrees! So we decided to keep the door closed and put the Air Conditioner to the test. Within 90 minutes the cabin (with two adults) was a tolerable 79 degrees. Note: a suggestion to the factory. Please consider replacing the square AC vent with a round vent with 360-degree rotation. We ended our perfect day in day in the Gulf of Mexico watching a gorgeous sunset

In summary we love our Ranger R-21EC and are very happy with how it all worked out.

mmmm.... grouper Reuben sandwich at the Fishery.... yum! 🙂

I agree that a vent with better directional control would be nice on the 21 air conditioning.

A fan or two mounted in the pilothouse would help even out the temperature. Let me know if you have questions about that. All fans are not created equal. If you wonder why some are more expensive, it's probably because they make less noise, won't chomp fingers, draw less current, last longer, or some combination of those attributes.
