The 11 lb. propane tank for our cook top / oven needs to be recertified. I am having trouble finding where to get this done. I am checking out camper / RV sources. Any other ideas.
Thanks - Bluejacket

Your local propane dealer, ensure tank is empty and will usually cost about $10. Bob

at least in the Seattle area, UHAUL does refills and recerts.

Are you sure it isn't a 5lb canister? I thought that was what all the boats used.

If it shows any age/rust, replacing them might be more cost-effective. They are $50 on Amazon. UHAUL gave me grief last time they filled mine, but on the R31 the propane locker sits in the water often. I ordered 2 new ones this year.

ditto what Watson said. Mine were cruddy and I replaced them with these from Fisheries:

I also spray-painted plastic coating on the lower half to reduce the rusting since the swim platforms get so wet on our boats.

I agree that replacing the tank is a good idea - since no one - and I mean NO ONE - in this area will recertify a tank.
Thanks everyone for your help and moral support.

Have you checked with the factory as to there supplier of the propane tank that came with your boat?

I did - no answer yet.
As it turns out, 11 lbs is the tare weight. Who thought? I didn't, obviously.
Got it sorted - thanks to all.
Bluejacket - red face.

Score another for Tugnuts. I have been looking for these tanks. Thanks for posting the link. Very helpful. I just placed an order.

Mine both expire this year. They have some surface rust and I’d rather just replace instead of recertifying so there’s no question about the rust when I go to refill.

Costco website has two 5 lb tanks for $100 plus tax, free delivery, Fisheries I think is $80 each.

The Costco tank is 3/4” taller than the 5lb tank Fisheries Supply sells. It would not fit in the propane locker installed under the aft cockpit seat on my 2012 R27 Classic. It may work in the swim platform propane lockers installed on the later R27 Classic models.

Costco tanks fit my 2017 R29 tank locker on swim deck. I got rid of the old tanks, yet I don’t remember a height difference.
Maybe I never noticed it, if there was a difference.

I purchased the 5 pound (1 gallon) Flame King steel tank from Amazon for $49.99 plus tax with free delivery to Prime members. Fits the propane locker just fine. Includes a gauge. Tank was pre-purged and ready to fill. Gave it an extra coat of Rust-Oleum paint before installing.

I’m quoting my own message, but today I received the tank I ordered from Fisheries Supply. Their website specifications for the tank says it is 12” tall. That is incorrect. It is 12 3/4” tall. I’m all but certain it will not fit in the under seat propane locker on my 2012 R27. I will find out in a couple days when I’m at the boat.

Something I have done on several tanks, is put a piece of rubber hose, gas line with a slit in it, on the bottom edge of LPG tank. Keeps it off the deck, and helps with the rust problem. You can use either 3/8 or 1/2 hose.

I used this stainless steel reinforced U Channel. Left over from the instrument panel safety edging on my former airplane. Put it around the bottom edge of the propane tanks and around the handle openings. Tight fit and holds up well.

The propane tank in the circa 2011 R27s (which are all becoming out of certification date) is manufactured by Wortington, and is part number 281149.

I ordered one from CampingWorld. $82.11 (save 10% by giving them a email address)

got it yesterday, its an exact clone of my original expired tank and fit the propane locker perfectly!
FYI - I tried to follow this link and order from Camping World and the item is discontinued.

A year or so ago, I ordered a replacement Worthington tank directly from Worthington. The parts guy I spoke with initially resisted selling directly to me, but after I calmly explained that it was impossible to find a retail outlet that stocked one, he relented and sold me one.
