Hello,

We’ve narrowed down our soon to be new Ranger Tugs to a newer model R25 or R27. From what we understand, the differences the R27 have over the R25, except for price of course, includes:

- 300 HP vs 250 HP
- Larger fuel, fresh water and black water capacity
- Larger head, but the same size berth
- xHD RADAR included as well as autopilot (option on R25)
- A propane two burner stove with oven
- Cockpit table and optional cockpit fridge
- Bow seating
- Optional dinghy lift

Is there anything else we are missing? If anyone has experience with both the newer model R25 and R27 please do share your views on the pros and cons of each. We are leaning towards the R25 as there is more 30’ moorage available in our marina, and my insurance will also be a bit less as its LOA falls within my “experience range” and the R27 is just over. There is of course the added purchase price as well.

Also, I assume maintenance costs between the two are roughly the same, but if anyone has info to share on this issue it would be very welcome.

Thanks so much,
Kori

We have the R27-Ob and looked at the R25.

The seating arrangement is swapped.

The r27 has the dinette on the starboard side, double wide helm seat. That aligns with the back window and reversible seat.

When we crab and shrimp, this puts the driver and the pot puller person on the same side of the boat, with easy communication to each other. Makes it easier for all involved.

Transom sink is nice with hot and cold water. Ski pole is also nice.

We published this video awhile ago that you may find interesting.

As previously stated, the seating arrangement is swapped. For that reason we are moving up from a r23 to the r25. We actually like the dinette opposite of the helm seat so it can sit 4 when underway, it is also easier to participate in conversation with guests if you are underway. We would like the extra features and power of the 27 but our preference for the layout is with the 25 They are both great boats. I know you will love either one. Good luck and see you on the water. JJ power, I bought the 2021 R27. If you buy the R 25, I think: you will not miss the hp difference. You will miss the larger water tanks. You will miss the larger head, radar and especially the autopilot. You will miss the propane stove and oven. You will not miss the cockpit table bow seating or the dinghy lift. Anyway, we’ve been very happy with our 27 OB. If there had been a larger OB we probably would have bought it. Just my $0.02.
