Toilet Intake Line Filter

We have a 2021 Cutwater 28 and I noticed there does not appear to be a typical water filter inline. I did see something spliced into the line about 3 inches long, grey in colour and with what looks like 4 allen type bolts. To me it looks to small to be a filter, so what is it. Thanks in advance.
 
From what I've read, most of the odor that I'm getting comes from the raw water line. As as result, I freshwater flush using the shower. While that method eliminates the odor problem and likely extends the life of my joker valve, it's certainly not ideal. I haven't heard of any good inline filtration solutions.
