R27 noisy fresh water pump

We used to live on an old Grand Banks 42 - when you kicked on the faucet, head or shower, you could hear the pump burrrrrp burrrrrp burrrrp from anyplace in the boat .... but we also noted that when we were walking down the dock, you could hear everybody's pump .... so it is not uncommon and certainly nothing to be embarrassed about. Yes, we hear it on our R-25, but if anything, it just tells us that it is working and all is well .... don't be tooooooo conscientious about it ... pretty normal. When you want to worry is when you don't hear it - and nothing happens at the faucet! 😀
 
Also make sure the pipes are not banging together. Pipe insulation works wonders for that.
 
I just replaced my pump on the R23. I added an accumulator and it didn't help. So I replaced the stock with a Seaflo 42 series. Took about an hour to do. Here's what I found; 1. The 4 screws holding the original pump were loose 2. The filter was partially clogged with fiberglass shavings, even though I cleaned it in the spring 3. No upgrade to wiring needed, original pump was 10A max and the Seaflo is 7.5A 4. Seaflo is much quieter no surging because it is variable pump 5. Can not hear the pump running at all when AC or radio is on.

Replaced my noisy pump with a Marco UP2/E. Pump is much quieter, and a different sound. Original pump was embarrassingly loud. Happy with output of the smaller Marco pump. Around $275 for pump.
 
Pretty much everything covered here above helped me solve the same problem I was so frustrated and honestly a little embarrassed about.
I ended up placing a 2 gal accumulator tank, and ran additional hose just after the pump with a T valve going to my drinking water filtration system, which after reading this post, acted like a “360 loop”. I have no more banging or pulsating.
 
Sooo..... anecdotal.

First season I had Hula Girl -- the pump was cavitating and making a LOT of noise. While up in Port Ludlow, a neighbor was afraid that all our bilge pumps had decided to go off -- wifey was just having a shower.

At the end of the season, I totally drained the tanks for winter.

Upon refilling in the spring, they're EXTRORDINARILY more quiet then before. Makes me wonder if I have bubble somewhere.

Did you have to change the wiring and fuse since this one requires 15 amps and the stock one is 10 amps?
 
I am also interested in the question American Flyer asked about the install of the Aqua Jet Flow Master WPS 5.0 - Variable Flow 10-13329-103 water pump. Per the SPXFLOW install manual for that pump, which does specify a 15 amp fuse, you need #12 AWG from battery to pump and back to battery for runs of 8.4 meters or less. Wire length runs over 8.4 meters up to 12.6 meters you need #10 AWG.
On our 2017 C-28 I’m ASSUMING that the total wire run is over 8.4 meters (27.5 feet) but less than 12.6 meters (41.3 feet) so that #10 AWG would work with a 15 AMP fuse in the PDP fuse block.
Can anyone who has done the Aqua Jet WPS 5.0 water pump upgrade (or other upgrade) confirm the AWG of the factory wiring to and from the water pump?

Ended up on the Fall to-do list instead - did the swap today. Actually pretty easy, but I noticed that some of the plastic quick-connect fittings in my cold water line were leaky. This pump seems a lot more 'sensitive' and any little drop in pressure caused it to cycle on for a split second. I ended up replacing several of the fittings and now it is leak-free and quiet! The old pump was loud when the faucet was all the way on, but it was REALLY loud when the faucet was partially on and it was pulsating on and of. The new one with the variable speed is so much nicer.
 
Replaced mine last weekend. Also added the accumulator. Unbelievably quiet. Actually silent. Water consumption is way up. But that’s ok!

Trying the least expensive option first. Added a 1 liter accumulator tank to the stock system. Not silent but much less annoying sound. Pulses about half as much as before. Will not know for sure if the volume is acceptable long term until we have used it for a few days cruising but I think it will be.
 
I replaced the 'stock' FW pump on our C-288 with a Seaflo 42 with bipass. No pressure tank. The pump runs silently and the water does not 'surge/pulse' when running. Less than $70 total. Well worth the effort. Thank you all for sharing!
 
A few of you have swapped out the stock water pump with the Seaflo 42 sfdp1-030-055-42 12v water pump. I’d like to ask those that have used the Seaflo 42 if after months or longer of use if you are happy with the results of the swap? Considering doing a swap on our R25OB.

Extremely happy with results and glad we did it. Runs silent. No issues after 8 months. We are using a bit more water because of the upgrade. With the noisy pump there was a level of self awareness that we were being noisy neighbors. Hence we were miserly with water (pump) use. Since the Commodore is not very interested in overnighting on the hook all that often, the added usage has not been a problem.
 
I'll follow suit. A heads up: Many reports in the Amazon reviews of improper assembly (leaks) and pressure switch failures. Carrying the original pump as a backup seems warranted.
 
For the price buy a couple of them. Easier swap out in the event of any failure.
 
While not the cheapest option... I added the "IRVWPC" water pump controller last season and it has made the existing (and/or any future replacement pump) completely silent at any flow less than wide open. Really a slick product consisting of a control box and an inline pressure switch. Only needed to buy a threaded connector (instead of hose barb) for the pump, and the rest of the install took 5min.
 
As a side note perhaps not directly related to fresh water pump. After about two years on my 2018 C242 I started having water supply problems. Pump would run but not very much water supply at any of the faucets. I check everything and replaced the pump and the problem was that the pickup tube in the top of the water tank was to long and the top of the tank sagged perhaps 1/8-1/4 inch which sealed the pickup to the bottom of the tank. I pulled it out and cut it on a 45 degree and little shorter and have not had a problem since. Just something to consider with all boats with plastic tanks.

I bought the Seaflo water pump talked about in this post thread. On our R25OB, after the swap, the pump runs extremely quiet, especially compared to the standard pump. I’ll keep the original
Pump for an emergency backup.
