What does the new R29 body style have that the older style doesn’t? Basically wondering what we would miss if we bought the older style.
We are play to look as soon as we can get away. We wonder if the second birth is bigger on the older model. It looks like it on the YouTube🙂 we are in Central CaliforniaI recommend taking a tour of old and new style. There are many differences.
If you don’t live in Northwest, it might be hard to take an actual tour. Second choice is utube. I have a 2017 R29 in Anacortes WA. Feel free to Private Message me on Tugnuts.
Do people use the flip open window?I don’t know about second berth size. I think 2016 R29 and on has:
Larger cockpit
Double helm seat
More skylights
Curved windshield
Volvo engine
Skylight in head
Flip open window seat in cockpit
Cockpit fridge
Optional cockpit steering (most don’t use it, even if it is there)
Three cockpit bench seats
Cockpit roof overhang
Different shape hull
No side helm door
I am not totally sure of the accuracy I listed. There are many more.
Coming from a sailboat, I learned that engine access matters!I believe the engine in the older style is partially under the floor in the cabin. It is all under the cockpit floor in the newer style. This change should positively impact noise during operation and engine access. Generator is behind the engine in the newer style which gives it improved access. Drawer under the bed in the newer style is a significant improvement. Storage compartment under the helm seat in the newer style is also a plus. Fender storage in bow is a plus in the newer model.
The flip up window seat is nice on warm days when more than two people are in cockpit. If a 2016 or newer is in your budget, you will be glad you bought the newer boat and the newer design. I have no idea of the current price differences.I believe the engine in the older style is partially under the floor in the cabin. It is all under the cockpit floor in the newer style. We use it A LOT! Very nice on any warm day. I won’t try and estimate a value but would put it in the “nice to have” column.Do people use the flip open window?
We use ours almost every time we’re out.Do people use the flip open window?
Best option. We love ours. It's my preferred seatWe use ours almost every time we’re out.
This is true about engine placement. I was on a 2011 R-29 back in May and very surprised when I opened the engine lid. Also, it wasn't a Volvo.I believe the engine in the older style is partially under the floor in the cabin. It is all under the cockpit floor in the newer style. It is my absolute favorite seat, especially if it's raining out. I also open that window a lot on warm days just to get better air circulation.Do people use the flip open window?
