Like Channel Surfing and Lemon Drop, Annie Time went to Alaska this summer as well. Martin has mentioned Annie Time in several of his posts along the way. Sorry I didn’t chronical along the way, but we were too busy catching dinner, watching the bears and counting eagles. We ate seafood (salmon, halibut, cod, shrimp, and crab) 90% of the time. We saw at least an eagle every day after leaving Campbell River and as many as a few dozen in a day.

We left for SE Alaska on May 22, 2023- a few days before Martin and Janet.
We towed Annie Time from Livermore, California to Blaine, Washington where we splashed her on May23rd. and prepared for our departure on the water
Our Last day on the water was July 17th and we arrived back in Livermore, California July 18th.

Total miles towing 1862 miles

Total miles on the water: 3438 statue miles.
Fuel consumed in the boat 2103 gallons
Total Engine hours: 257.
Total Fish sent or brought home ~200lb.

We spent about equal time in Canada and SE Alaska. We met up with Channel Surfing and Lemon Drop in Campbell River and traveled together to Fury Cove where we went our separate ways. We did meet up again in Juneau and had a nice BBQ one evening.

We made it as far North as the Margorie Glacier at the top of Glacier Bay, a long way from home.

From Fury cove we slow boated to Ketchikan where we picked up another friend on the 14th of June. This made us a three-person boat as well. From there, we slow boated on up to Juneau where we met up with four others that came up to visit, including Annie and my boat mates wife. We had rented an Airbnb out at Hoonah for the week of July 22nd.

Four of our party took the ferry to Hoonah from Juneau and three of us took the boat and a load stuff from Costco to Hoonah for the week. We ran very, very heavy that day. Only could make 24kts on flat water. We normally can run at 30kts. Having a week off the boat in Hoonah was great. We did still go out on the boat everyday, but we slept in real beds for a week…..

We crossed all the same gates as Channel surfing and Lemon Drop
* Dixon Entrance (open ocean) Annie even went out to the south westerner tip of Alaska on the way home, (Cape Chacon) looking for the big salmon to catch.
* Cape Caution (open ocean)
* Johnstone Strait, twice. Second time was much better than the first
* Georgia Strait
* Dodds narrows and the Seymour narrows

Longest run in a single day at 30 knots.
Prince Rupert to Shearwater (British Columbia).
211 statue miles- we made a few detours to fish along the way.
We ran from Prince Rupert to Klemtu- 135 miles and skipped the Hartley Bay fuel issues, (highly recommended)

Average travel day was between 30 and 135 statue miles for about 3-6 hours traveling.

3 days of bad seas. The Johnstone Strait on the way up (Martin described well), Hoonah to Tenakee springs for a 15 mile stretch of wind against current, Icy Straight coming back from Glacier Bay to Hoonah with 7 on board. Again for a 3 mile stretch in the Johnstone straight no wind but the current on current there made 3-4 waves that were hard to believe. It is very impressive what mother nature can dish out just from currents. Mostly flat seas throughout the trip.

We changed oil, oil filter, and both fuel filters in Juneau like Channel Surfing.
Did a haul out in Wrangle to service the lower unit at 200 hours
and another oil change in Port McNeil on the way home.

As Martin has said, there were challenges along the way but nothing these boats can’t handle. The real question - can the crew handle it? You need to be prepared to deal with issues along the way. All are solvable problems with a few tools and spare parts either carried with or brought in from somewhere. The Tugnuts support team is awesome… Just ask Martin and Janet. We didn’t encounter the same mechanical challenges as Marin did.

Annie and I have done several major trips on Annie Time including Desolation Sound in 2021, the Florida mini loop in the winter of 2022, Catalina Island in Southern California and the San Juan Islands several times. This trip was by far the best. Go do it as soon as you can!

Perry and Annie,

Congratulations for a successful trip! We enjoyed following your adventures via Channel Surfings posts. I remember the first time we met at the Rendezvous at Roche Harbor and you said you wanted to do the Inside Passage trip. You did it, and with lots of fish (200lbs!)

Thanks Curt and Tracy you all were part of our inspiration.

It was so nice to meet up with Annie Time and get to travel a couple days together. Also, the dinner on the dock in Juneau with docktails over glacier ice was fantastic!! Thanks again for the fish too.

My biggest regret(s) on our trip.
1) I worked 3 days a week from the boat. I should not have. I should have used that time to get into Endicott Arm (Dawes Glacier), Fords Terror and over to Sitka.
2) I didn't bring my fishing gear. (HUGE regret here).

There will be a "next time" for us. Maybe next year, maybe the year after. Channel Surfing is going back to SE Alaska.

Perry + Annie, I'm new to the forum and am in the very early phases of planning a trip based on your writeup and of course seeing Martin and LaZina's videos on YouTube. If you're still based in the Bay Area and would be willing to meet up, I'd love to buy you a meal and learn more about your experiences.

We are just on our way home from a boating trip in Canada. We spent 3 weeks going to and from Shearwater. I would be glad to meet up with you. I’ll be home around the 1st of July. We are towing home now from Blaine Wa.
