I have a Ranger Tug 29S with the standard 22 pound anchor. We prefer to swing on a hook and looking at upgrading to the Mantis M1 galvanized anchor with the S1 swivel. They have a 25 pound anchor but have read where people have gone to the 15 kilogram or 33 pound anchors from Rocna or the 35 pound anchor from Mantis. Also thoughts on the anchor guard? Any thoughts and recommendations since Mantis is having their 20% off sale would appreciate??

We have a Rocna 10kg (22 lbs) as our primary anchor and the Mantis M1 25 pound anchor as our emergency anchor. This is for a C-28. The Mantis swivel is an excellent addition to your anchor package.

We spend a lot of time on the hook here in New England. My rule of thumb regarding anchor size is... take the manufacturer's recommendation from their sizing chart, and go up one size. For my 2022 Cutwater C24 fully loaded with 2 adults, weight comes in around 3.5 tons. My anchor choice is a Rocna Vulcan (no roll bar). and the recommended size is the Vulcan 9kg (20 pounds), and I went up one size to Vulcan 12kg (27 pounds). I like to sleep at night. Try to carry an all chain rode. We always anchor in shallow, protected water, so our 50 feet of chain is OK. When I need to replace the chain, I'll go to 100'.
