I recently purchased an R29. Every time ai met with the original owner, at the vessel, the diesel was running. I thought “insert key and turn” not so...due to circumstances, bottom paint, anode replacements, etc...not yet launched. Does anyone know of a “you tube” tutorial..
 
You will have a little black key fob. If you swipe it across the Start/Stop button it will lock and unlock the engine.

You do NOT have to lock the engine each time if you choose.

1. Turn on Engine Battery Switch
2. Unlock the engine with the fob
3. Push Start

That's all there is to it!
 
Oh my...that is almost to easy...just like starting the Buick (almost). Thanks for your response.

I have a 2018 D4 in my C28. When I purchased my boat a few weeks ago both Fobs were sitting in the cubby at the port helm seat. All I did was press the ignition button on top then press the start button below. Have never used the fobs at all. It was my understanding that as long as they reside on the vessel that I can simply start as I have. How important is it to shut off the main engine breaker outside?? For Surge protection??
 
You should turn the engine circuit off when you shut down the engine. There may have been a change but 2016 Volvo requires the Fob to be swiped in front of the start button to turn the engine circuit on and repeat that action when turning it off. If the circuit is left on the engine monitor at the dash is on, many of the engine relays are on. I always shut off the engine battery switch when we are done cruising for the day. I want no battery drain from that battery when not in use.

BBmarine. You may have just answered my question that I posed yesterday. I do not need my key FOB at all to start my engine, and I have a substantial phantom draw on the engine battery. I did not know you needed to wave the FOB to shut the monitor and relays down. 2 questions if you are reading this.
1) Is there any way to tell positively that you have shut the engine circuit down and:
2) Do you have any sense how big the draw is? My brand-new battery is losing .3 volts overnight (with the bilge #1 fuse pulled to ensure it isn't part of the problem.)

Do you know of the 2015 Ranger 29s needs the fob. I’ve been using the boat for 3 years and never seen a fob. Changed batteries and now ignition/stop-start switch flashes red and will not start.

The engine circuit is completely off when BOTH green lights are off.
 
Our 2015 FOB is grey. Everyone talks about "waving" the FOB to activate the starting circuit (or turn it off). I need to place it in front/under the swithces to activate or deactivate them.....waving the fob does not work for me.
 
In 2015, the 24/7 loads (CO2 monitors, stereo memory, propane monitor, bilge pumps) were wired to the "always hot" side of the engine start battery. There was always a load on the start battery even when the start battery switch was off. The factory has since changed this practice, but I don't know exactly when this occurred - I believe around 2020. If your boat is still wired this way, it is not very difficult to move the 24/7 fuse block power from the start battery to the house battery.
