R-27 (Outboard)
Getting some mixed input from trailer manufacturers on what’s needed on a R-27 OB. Will be trailering annually between Great Lakes and Florida. Will see some salt water but not a lot.
1. Tandem axle with 12700# load capacity vs Triple axle with 13000# load capacity.
2. Are Stainless steel calipers, rotors and stands necessary at $600 per wheel or just do the SS caliper's and stands at $250 per wheel?

Looking at Compass, Magic Tilt, Loadmaster any other recommendations?

I recently purchased a trailer for a R-25. I am very happy with the 12K Tandem Axle that Gulf Coast Trailer of St. Petersburg Fl built for me.
Quick, Good Price, Solid Quality. They even stayed late on a Friday night so I could get an early start pulling North to Michigan. Talk to Ed.

We have the R27 OB and we have the Float-On Aluminum Triple Axle 15240# GVWR and the trailer itself weighs in at 1820# leaving a carrying capacity of 13420#.
I like to estimate on the high side so I figure the boat full of fuel (possibly), food, gear and water could weigh in between 9 and 10k. That leaves me with a nice buffer so I know I am not overloading anything. I also carry straps so that if I have a problem with one axle I can strap it up and run on the remaining 2.
But all that aside, the absolute biggest reason I would never consider a tandem is the braking. Even with 3 axles and 6 calipers I don't feel like I have that great of an ability to stop fast. It's just a lot of weight.
The only negative I have found of the triple is the front and rear wheels drag when doing tight maneuvering. But it's not that big of a deal.
Perhaps if you are only moving your boat in town a tandem would be fine.

I’ve hauled a lot of different types of trailers over the years and if I’ve only learned one thing, it is to ensure the the trailer is rated for a minimum of 20-25% more than the actual maximum weight (including the trailer) of the loaded trailer. Everything aspect of trailering will go smoother, regardless of configuration.

I have a Float-on Tandem with 7000# axles and 17" wheels. Stainless discs and electric/hydraulic brakes. Original owner specified tandem over tri-axle because he hated the "scrubbing" when he made tight turns. He is also a manufacturer of components for semi truck builders.

Trailer hauled my 27ob from FLA to PA to SEA without complaint.

A note of caution: Do not rely on surge brakes on this size boat; they are great until you back down a slippery ramp. Don't ask.

Been happy with our triple axel Integrity trailer. It has a shorter tongue which allows us to fit it into our garage that's 36 feet deep. Been back and forth to the west coast several times and all over the great lakes.
