R-27 (Outboard)
Hi, new to the forum here. I am resident of Mexico living in Sayulita (next to Puerto Callarta). I currently have a day boat but would like a boy to cruise the pacific coast of Mexico and the sea of Cortez. Was thinks of the ranger rig 27. I donor plan to tow it. So seeking feedback from the group in term of feasibility (getting the boat here), able to achieve what I explained above, fuel range? Is it enough? I know there are some good distance between marina but is it possible to buy fuel from, for example) the fishermen in villages where there are no marina with dock services seeking people experience with cruising Mexico with their small motorboats

Are you thinking of the inboard diesel 27 or the outboard 27?

I was thinking the outboard as I was thinking to buy new, maybe I missed it but I thought that the 27 now was only outboard

I have done the run from CA to Cabo and beyond, including Loreto and down south to PV, albeit big boats many times. If you are planning on running on it's own bottom, it's all downhill from CA, but still have to watch the wind expecially with a small beamed boat! Plan on running 7-8 knot's the whole run with stops in Ensenada for fuel and customs, Turtle Bay for fuel and rest, then Cabo. My guess is you would have to entertain a fuel bladder to allow enough fuel to make the trip between legs. If you are first planning on running it down from Seattle, that's a whole other ballgame in a small boat!! Fresh water will be the other concern, but storing gallon jugs around the boat shouldn't be too bad.

As for your question of buying fuel from fisherman, I guess that's possible, but not probable ,as fuel is a prime commodity much like fresh water is down there for fisherman and cruisers alike. Beer and cigarettes are good bargaining tools.

Thank you for your comment. I live in Sayulita and the fishermen leaves their boats on the beach and get their gas from the gas station at the entrance of town. In fact the fishermen from La Cruz do the same and they are in a marina ( but try to avoid the 15% fee). So I was thinking that and of course for a fee or bargain get some from them if required Will see it wil take more research and maybe somebody on this forum did something similar

And forgot to say. I do not think I would want to sail the boat down the California and Baja coast. Was thinking to get it trucked to Puerto Vallrta and then start first to enjoy it around the bay de Bamderas and around there.to learn the boat and then see what can be done to make it the cruiser I want for the sea of Cortez. But checking my sanity and see if it is even possible and if it has been done on similar size and capacity boat
