Hi, Tugnuts..

Love this site.
Bought 2016 R27 October 2025. It was delivered in November. Spent 4 hours aboard before winter storage. Spent MANY hours this winter reading Owner's Manual and reading Tugnuts posts. Now launched for the season. The trim tabs do not seem to be functioning - checked before launch and tried to adjust on trial run. I read the Bennett material that was onboard. My question, where is the Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) located on an R27 T? It's location isn't shown in the Owner's Manual although it is 'standard' equipment. Appreciate any insight you all can give. I'm in love with the boat. And, I am probably the farthest Tugnut from any salt water - Nebraska lake for now. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ours on a 2012 R 27 is on the starboard side clear at the stern under the cockpit floor. You need to lay on the floor to see it. Check the fluid level, and see that the pump runs. We had to replace our unit.

If I recall from our R25, which was a very similar build to the R27, Specialk's location advice is spot on. You might (it has been 5 years since we owned that model so my memory is a little clouded) be able to reach it easier for maintenance by removing the center stern seat and the plastic tub over the rudder steering hardware.

On my 2012 R27, open the starboard storage compartment in the cockpit and look to the rear inboard corner. There’s the HPU. When testing trim tab operation, some people have gotten thrown off by the way the tabs work— When the left switch is actuated at the helm, the right tab moves and vice versa.

Thank you, CC. I'm looking forward to doing my homework/deckwork next weekend. Really appreciate the good responses.
I did watch an informative video on YouTube, not on location of unit on R27, but about replacing a Bennett system It is
"Installing New Bennett V351HPU Trim Tab Hydraulic Power Unit 12 Volt".

Not anymore they don't!

Every Bennett trim tab system I have seen in the last 40 years works the way CaspersCruiser describes and they were on our 2015 Ranger Tug R25. To force the bow down on the Starboard side the tab on the stern on the Port side of the boat lowers, and vice versa. The switches at the helm are typically marked Bow Down. If you have tabs that work opposite of that it may be that they were wired incorrectly or someone intentionally reversed them to accommodate the way their brain thought about the process.

Hello , All,
Monday was our day to be on board again. You all are amazing. I looked in the starboard cockpit locker and there it was, perfect. Thank you all so much.
