I have replaced and installed trim tabs (Bennett ) many times. I did replace the trim tabs on my C26. The original were 12X12 and to small for that size boat. This is not an issue with the R27. The common issue with the trim tabs is the cylinders fail and the planes "rust, oxidize" or the piano hinge fails. If you are replacing the planes I would recommend not using the piano hinge style if yours is equipped with that style. Order the edge hinge style, this style will last forever. The cylinders also fail leak, break or lock up. I would replace those also while doing the replacement. As far as changing to a different manufacture there are pro's and cons to both Bennett and Lenco. Electric verse hydraulic ....... It's a personal choice but if you replace with Bennett it is an easier replacement and if properly maintained will last a long time. I just sold a 2002 Mainship Pilot that had original planes and cylinders and looked and functioned like new. The key is keeping them clean and well protected with a properly sized anode. The trim tab anodes are isolated from the boats bonding and only protecting the plane. If there is not an anode installed there is no protection for the plane and they will be damaged. When I purchased my C26 new in 2016 it did not have anodes installed on them. It was the first thing I did was install them. It surprised me a PNW boat built for salt water use with minimal anode protection. It's those little things that make you go Hummm!
