RS29 - 2016 transmission problem

While going 12 knots my transmission suddenly slipped out of forward into neutral. shaft not spinning. it will go in reverse but not forward. any ideas that I can pursue? who works on transmissions in the Seattle WA area?

Pacific Power Group is the shop I’d call for Volvo work on my boat. No affiliation and I’ve never used them myself, just going by the positive feedback I’ve read on this forum.

Sounds like the forward engagement solenoid. Not hard to change.
 
Volvo Penta does not manufacture our transmissions. ZF/Hurth is the manufacturer. If you purchase the VP part number solenoid it will cost multiple times the exact same solenoid in a ZF box. ZF makes the same solenoid valves for BMW, as well. You did not say which year your boat is. Our 2015 RT 31 has a different plug on the solenoid than the later models. The later version is less susceptible to corrosion from the water being sprayed by the packing gland. There is a separate thread on some ways to reduce the effects of the packing gland spray on the solenoids and the rear engine mounts (especially if you are in salt water).
