Considering purchase of R-29S

Last year we upgraded from an R25 SC. We had a few requirements, an island berth, 10 ft beem, and an engine we could get maintained. We looked for an R29 but on the East Coast they were hard to find. R29s are very popular for the Great Loop. We also looked at the R31 but found it to darker and had an enclosed feel compared to the R29. There were a few things we liked about the R31, the sliding door that gave you easy access to the bow and the larger engine compartment that gave you access to the front of the engine for changing the belts and impeller. We ended up going with at Cutwater C32. It gave us the openness of the R29 with the size of the R31. We also had difficulty finding a diesel mechanic on an inland lake. The outboards are easier for us to maintain. Having two engines makes the boat extremely maneuverable. We still cruise at 8 to 9 mph most of the time but, it nice to be able to cruise at 35 mph if we need to and top out at 45+. The C32 fits on the same trailer as the R31.
