When my autopilot displayed the “Searching for autopilot controller” message, the autopilot pump fuse blades were corroded. Cleaning those blades resolved the issue. However, the display never got beyond the “Searching….” message. You might have something else going on.

When this message appeared it turned out to be the reactor had fail (electrical compass). I'm sure several will suggest other possibilities. Call Garmin customer service and they will walk you through how to test it.

That happened to me and was resolved by unplugging controller from NMEA network and plugging in again.

+1 for disconnecting and reconnecting the controller from the NMEA network from the connection at the back of the controller.

Behind the mirror in the head you can see the autopilot controller connection to the NEMA backbone. Autopilot controller on other side of bulkhead. I unplugged the controller to NMEA connection and plugged back in. Problem solved. Haven’t had this occur since.

Is the rest of the NMEA connected equipment "talking" or connected? Does the backbone have a dedicated yellow power cord connected to the backbone? If yes don't read any further just confirm it has 12V. If it does not. One of Fluid motions ways of powering the NMEA backbone is through the Fusion NRX. The NRX is a power supply that can be used for powering a backbone for the Fusion radio remotes. It is not intended to be used for powering the NMEA backbone used to connect and communicate with the electronics, navigation and auto-pilot. If the Fusion radio requires a reset or is not functioning or the NRX is turned off in settings The auto pilot or any other NMEA connected devises will no longer "talk" because there isn't a power source for the backbone. The autopilot will not work as it is searching because it is no longer connected. The main troubleshoot is to confirm you have power to the backbone. If yes do, has others have stated check connections, Turn off all 12V Battery+ resources to all electronics to do a reset.
