I recently purchased a 2009 21EC with 230 hrs on the engine. The previous owner told me the raw water pump failed after only a few hrs of use. Unfortunately this failure caused salt water to spray over the front of the engine and now I have a slight rusting issue. Looking at the pump and belt drive now I noticed the belt was VERY loose which was a concern. However, I have seen from other boat sites that many people had failure of the raw water pump and felt the cause was an OVERTIGHTEN belt causing strain on the bearings in the pump. I was about to tighten the belt to factory specs but wanted to hear if anyone has had this issue and or comments about belt tension.
