Hello everyone,

Finding one place afloat for the future R21 (2009) is not easy close to the Mediterranean coast: very few places.
I found one all-year-long afloat-place in fresh-water, at marina (in Beaucaire town, 20 km from home) in the canal ("canal du Rhône à Sète").
But it's one half-a day cruise at maximum 5.4 knots (10km/h) from the sea, with many places where boats must go slower than 2.2 knots (4km/h) under bridges, through ports, locks...

Could someone tell whether the Yanmar 30hp engine would be too much low rev' for half-day at this speed, to keep it from condensation water that may be in oil, and from any carbon build up (ehaust, elbow-pipe) ?

Hello,

If you are concerned about running the engine at low RPMs for extended periods of time periodically put the transmission in neutral then push the button on the throttle housing to disengage the transmission. After doing this you can rev up the engine RPMs for a short period of time. I do this as part of my routine engine maintenance when flushing the salt water out of the cooling system.

Enjoy

Karl

Thanks Capt'nKarl for answer!
so I understand neutral is the solution to rev' up the engine when's no place for speed in canal.
