1000 GPH Johnson Bilge Pump Float Switch

I thought I had left the manual override switch on on my bilge pump but it turned out that the impeller had fallen off. I found that out when I removed the cartridge. The float switches on both pumps are now stuck in the on position. Can that float housng be cleaned or do I just need to buy new ones.

You are right, the new switch is sure cheaper than the boat was. Sometimes I just can't stand to not "fix" something. With both switches acting up It is dumb to gamble. I stuck an old bilge pump with float in place last night. I couldn't sleep. That's one "wet dream" I don't need. Pat, Ladybug, Too

The bilge pumps on 2009 and newer all have an electronic float switch. No more floats getting clogged with debris. The float is wired hot to the battery and the pump is wired to the manual switch. Should never have to use the manual switch if the float is working correctly. We sell a cartridge for less than $20 but we would be happy to replace yours. I have not typically seen an impeller just fall off unless the pump ran hot for a long time without having water going through it. Let me know what we can do to help.

The electronic float modules can be cleaned and placed back in service. The sensor inlet can clog from light crud in the bilge so a little Tide in the bilge from time to time should alleviate the need to clean them frequently. The forward pump is easy to access, the aft a bit more difficult. After cleaning, I repeatedly hosed and tested the units. I removed the fuse on the aft pump test the forward pump. Ten cycles each and no issues. Pat, Ladypug, Too.
