I just had a 1500 ProMariner installed to run my microwave while on the hook.
It doesn't work very well. The microwave shuts down intermittently. Runs for 10 seconds, then on retry it runs for a minute and a half.
I am thinking now that if any of you Tugnuts out there have a 1500 ProMariner that runs their microwave satisfactorily then I would like to buy the same model of microwave.
I figure that is the cheapest cure for my badly functioning Microwave (A Danby, bought at Wall-Mart) is to scrap it and buy one which is "compatible" with this now installed Inverter.

Bob,

Is the input voltage to the inverter adequate during operation? The inverter may be shutting down. You may have a LED bar display on the remote panel or on the inverter, if it is like mine it indicates output load and input voltage. Hopefully the installation has proper wire gauge for the inverter current requirement.

You do not need to run the engine for the inverter unless your house bank is discharged or has failing batteries. I have used ours for as much as 15 minutes cumulative to heat various items while on the hook, the batteries handled it well. I have also run a coffee maker and my wife has used a hair dryer.

You can use your water heater as a load test, it is about 1500W and will push the inverter to full output. With good batteries it should be able to power it as a test. Make sure the tank is cold enough so the thermostat will turn the heating element on.

Hi, thanks for the help.

Engine is off, the remote sensor has two rows of led lights.
When the microwave is on the left row of lights show only one or two lights while the right row has about 8 bars of lights lite (total lights in each row is about 10).

After a minute or so it makes a clunk/buzzing sound and shuts off.

I can "reset" and repeat but after a few seconds and sometimes a minute or so it shuts down again.

The electrician installed with very heavy gauge wire, including the wire covering it looked like it was an inch thick. He said it was I think ".2"

I don't know the wattage at this point as I'm not on the boat.

I can't speak for Promariner, but the following statement is from the Xantrex 1800W owner's manual "Xantrex recommends a minimum battery size of 200 Ah for moderate loads (less than 1000 W) and greater than 400 Ah for heavy loads." I suspect that Promariner would need a similarly sized battery bank.

Have you added extra batteries? Two are probably not enough to power a microwave.
