My wife and I have just completed a wonderful 3 month trip up the ICW from the bottom of the St. John's River, Fl to NY on our 2013 29' tug. The boat behaved admirably, but being a boat we did encounter a few problems along the way. I thought it might be helpful to others to enumerate those problems and their fixes that I haven't seen posted elsewhere on this site.
Serendipitous discoveries while poking around.
Shame on the manufactures who can't make a switch, cable or solenoid that will last more than 3 years.
- Autopilot - Intermittently failed to correct the course. Burned out pin on the connecter to the hydraulic pump. Repaired
Rear Thruster - Dead to port. Solenoid Contacts in thruster worn/burnt beyond cleaning. Replaced
Trim Tabs - Starboard Dead. Replaced Up/Down switch
Waste System - Incomplete pumpouts. Clean vent
Boat Vibration - Loose shaft to engine coupling bolts. Tighten ( Discussed at length in another post.)
Serendipitous discoveries while poking around.
- High water sensor in the waste tank had fallen off the tank. (could have been very nasty) Reglued
Two nuts on the anchor winch had backed off many turns and wiring to winch in locker was not dressed out of the way.
Shame on the manufactures who can't make a switch, cable or solenoid that will last more than 3 years.
