I came across a 98 R21 while searching for a new outboard for my 24' pontoon boat. Ranger Tugs are totally new to me, but I am very intrigued by the look and uniqueness of this boat. I am contemplating selling the pontoon boat and buying this R21 or another. Not being familiar with the Ranger tugs, I was hoping to get some tips on what to look for on older models such as this 21ft 98 model. One concern I have is with hull construction. Is wood used in the construction of these older models ? Should I be looking for cracks or rotted areas if the boat has not been properly maintained? Any other things to look for in the overall boat construction. What should I look for mechanically ? The Yanmar 20 hp diesel from what I know is a good engine but all of my boating experience is with outboard motors.
