My new (to me) 2013 R31cb was delivered last Weds. I have spent 60 hours cleaning it and fixing minor issues.
1) #1 Bilge pump (rear of engine) was constantly running, decided to replace it. Works well, auto checks every 2.5 mins and it discharged a pail of water.
however, I noted the auto style fuse (5) was broken so I replaced it.
When I plugged the fuse in, the pump came on, and stayed on. So I removed the good fuse and put the broken one back in and the pump works fine. I am struggling with the the whole power systems issue. I don’t get it…oh well.

2) the cig lighter style phone charger at the lower helm station does not work. Does it have a separate fuse ? Or its own power on/off switch somewhere ? went in the Ranger 31 manual and found no reference to it.

Thank you in advance !

Andrew

1. Sounds like you wired it incorrectly. Hard to explain in a couple of words, but do a google search for "Schematic for Bilge pump." Several will pop up, but this showed what I believe we have https://newwiremarine.com/how-to/wire-b ... mp-switch/ (manual switch). But, wIthout putting meters on your wires, I cannot be sure.

2. The electrical schematic in the owners manual shows an orange/white wire in Dash fuse box #2, behind the helm There are a couple orange/white wires, but I am guessing one has a blown fuse.

Thank you MC…

So I just watched the “As the prop turns” video on Spring maintenance and I think I solved question #1.
I installed a new Automatic 800 Gph Rule pump, which replaced the same thing. The previously blown fuse was a 5 amp, so this boat had an older style pump prior to the Rule I replaced.

And, the bilge pump(s) switches should be in the off position normally.
I can turn the bilge pump on manually by switching on the breaker. I will buy a 7.5 amp fuse tomorrow and try it out.
So my confusion was that the circuit breakers for the bilge pumps are normally in the OFF position while running the boat.

Re the phone charger problem, I need to track down that breaker and fuse.

Thank you.

Can someone guide me to the switch if there is one, or, a fuse?
Thank you !

If like our Classic R27 there are two power sources for each bilge pump for redundancy. One for the automatic operation that is permanently powered via a fuse and one that is manual operation via the breaker.
That way even if the auto switch fails or fuse is blown you can still pump out the bilge manually. The breakers should normally be off.

Thank you Curt.
When I replaced the 800 gph Rule pump with an exact replica,
I saw that there were 4 wires in the bilge leading from the boat’s power source, however one of the wires was not attached and left on its own. I left it in its own too.
However, I think that the 4th wire is somehow connected to enable a manual on/off using the switch on the boat panel.
In addition to the “automatic” on/off.

The pump works fine on auto at least.
