I had this very problem today. It seems after you give your bilge a good flush, the pump is likely to get plugged up - it then keeps running without pumping - the way to stop it is just suck out the bilge with your shopvac, then the pump will go silent. Then you have to unplug things. You remove the barrel of the pump by pushing the little black lever at the back aft, which allows you to unscrew the pump and lift it out it's housing (still attached to its wires). You can see if it or the inlets at its base are plugged, and give them a flush (keep that shopvac handy).
If the pump still does not work, the hose pipe leading to the transom is plugged. Sounds daunting, but just remove the hose close to the pump, insert your water hose in it, and flush it, until you are sure water is coming out the transom at a good rate (it's good to have a helper).
The pump on my 2008 R25 (and I am talking about the pump in the bilge, just behind the transmission, under the prop shaft), is a Johnson 1250 GPH cartridge type centrifugal pump.
