2008 R25 fuel meter problem

The fuel meter on our new to us 2008 R25 is not responding. The owners manual shows the sending unit about mid tank. My question is, can the tank be accessed by opening the cabin sole and can this be done without damaging it . I have tested the meter by grounding the meter and it responds, so my guess is the sending unit is either stuck or there are issues with the wire connections. If no one has had this problem before I will try the factory next Monday.
