I have a 2008 R25 with the yanmar 4jh4 110 hp turbo. After long runs, 6-8 hours , when I turn off the engine, say at a fuel dock, it will not restart. When I turn the key nothing happens and there is a click from the starter area (sounds like a solinoid) but nothing.

After the engine sits 10-30 mIns. It will fire up normally, no odd sounds or weak sounding battery. This has not happened when the engine is cold started.

This would not be a big deal but I am in an area with locks that require the engine to be off during passage.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I don't know how if there are any sounds when the throttle is not centered and you try to start, but I do know it won't start so be sure that's not your problem.

I had a similar problem until I went through and tightened all the electrical connections between the batteries, busses and the engine. I also replaced the ground strap with a cable ground. One theory was that the engine vibration loosens some of the connections. I hope these suggestions help.

I was going to say check the ground strap also. The one on my 2007 R25 4JH3 125 HP corroded but still looked good and the engine wouldn't start. I can imagine heat, vibration or moisture playing havoc with that ground strap. I could never find a replacement ground strap and had to use a large battery cable instead.

Check your oil and coolant level also. If the engine is overheating slightly it may increase friction enough and make it difficult to start until it cools down.
