I like to get there fast, if fuel consumption isnt an issue what RPM is safe/recommended for these engines?

The rule of thumb with the Yanmar engine is to run 80% of wide open throttle. This of course varies by weight, water temperature and other factors but allows you to base it off of your personal performance.

Hope that helps,

I have also read that the operating temperature could be an issue at 80+%. Not sure what the temp limit is at the moment.
I think there will be an alarm or automatic slow down.
This may be more of an issue in tropical waters. Maybe not in Anchorage, AK.

We had a great Ranger 29 for two years with this engine and did the Great Loop in it; 10 months and nearly 6,000 miles. Our fast cruising speed was 3200 to 3400 RPM and traveled at 12 to 14, burning 8.5 to 10 gallons per hour. This Yanmar 260 is a BMW block that is well engineered and purrs.
