I am finally retiring this winter. As such I am considering trailering LENABELL to New England this summer to explore my old home waters. I spent time in New London & Newport while in Navy during 1970s. Does anyone know of a good (secure, safe) place to leave my truck and trailor for a few weeks? It could be in Conn. but not necessary since I will likely spend several weeks and will want to visit New London, Newport, the islands, & maybe Cape Cod after attending the Rendezvous.

Mon Petit Chou-Chou, Crewed by my wife, Peggy and I plan to attend the rendezvous. Our cruising mates own a Nordic Tug 2010, 26 foote,r and would like to attend also. As they bought their boat from Wilde yacht Sales, our host, I hope they will be welcomed. I would like to suggest a topic for the Saturday seminar. I would really like to attend an engine maintenance tecnical session. I look forward to the event.

My wife and I will be shipping our R29, Joint Venture, from Ft Myers to Havestraw in May and look forward to meeting fellow owners at the rendezvous. Ranger owners are a rare breed in Southwest Florida. We too are currently in a cold spell: 40 and 50 degrees. Jerry Geisenheimer

I am planning on attending with the Admiral and Pasta (dog).

My wife Julia and I plan on attending. We will be staying at Brewer's Dauntless Shipyard, about 150 ft.
from Essex Isd Marina.

If anyone wants to check out Essex Island on Google Earth, it's N 41 21 13 W 72 23 04

Chris

Hi Bill Boyer  ! Laurie and I will both be attending. We are sooooo excited about it. I will call you soon for details
Vickie 😀

Bill,
The Admiral (Dottie) and I plan to attend. Please let us know what the fees will be, prepayment, etc. Is there a place to park our truck and trailer if we should decide to trailer our boat?

Vickie,
It is interesting to note that you are the first person from Connecticut to sign up. Everyone else is from up and down the coast.

I am thinking about maybe cruising my boat up to the rendezvous. Can someone tell me if the usual sea state on the Long Island Sound, and the area between the Manasquan River and the New York Harbor is generally traversable by a R21-EC?

Jess and I will be attending and look forward to meeting other Ranger owners. We will be traveling down from Rhode Island. Being new owners of a Ranger Tug any seminars or demonstrations related to owning and operating the vessel will be great. Perhaps a rep from Yanmar to talk about how to's with periodic maintenance would be a great one or in's and out's of the Garmin GPS.

My wife, son, and I are planning on attending. We are coming in from Sandy Hook, NJ area. We have a 2007 R25 named Nauti Dream. Anything on Diesel maintenance would be interesting for me. I'll have to ask the wife what she would like.

Rick,

You will have to time the Manasquan to NY Harbor trip properly. It can get pretty rough if the wind is out of the North, South or East or a recent storm has passed by. Once you go past Shark River there is nowhere to hide. It is better to start as early in the morning as possible because the wind usually picks up as the day goes on.

Under the Verrazano can be a little choppy and you will usually encounter a lot of chop and swells in NY Harbor because it is the meeting point of the Hudson and East river and there is usually a lot of ferry traffic. You will also have to travel through Hell Gate and will need to be careful there also. We are planning to cruise up also. If you want to try to time it so we meet up and pass through NY Harbor, the East River and LI Sound together let me know and we can try to work it out. I have seen an R21 cruising the LI Sound so I don't think you will have trouble there. My experience is usually waves of 1-2 feet in LI Sound. The R21 I saw was cruising just fine in 3-4 foot seas. We always log how long our trips take so I can give you a better idea how long it will take you if you can give me an idea of your cruising speed. It is probably longer then you expect. Right now we are planning on leaving Wednesday night to anchor at Bayside Marina in Bayside, NY, cruising to another anchorage on Thursday night on Long Island and then arriving Friday in Essex.

I think the R21 can handle the Manasquan River and the New York Harbor no problem, if you time it properly. I also don't think you will have issues on the LI Sound either.

Doke01,
Thanks for the info. My wife has family in Connecticut and she would like to take a little vacation when we are up for the rendezvous. I have been wanting to cruise the Connecticut River. I have also been thinking about cruising from the Chesapeake Bay (where we live) through the Delaware Bay, and up the ICW to New York. I didn't know if the open water between the Manasquan River and the New York Harbor, and Long Island Sound would be too much for my R21. I found a NOAA website that forecasts the winds and wave heights of various areas. I have been using the pages for the Chesapeake for many years and they have been pretty accurate. I just found the pages for the rest of the U.S.
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/usamz.htm
and for offshore, including the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/wrdoffmz.htm
I am going to monitor these pages while I make plans for the trip. I will let you know if I decide to cruise up to the rendezvous so maybe we can cruise together.

Rick,

I've done that trip on a sail boat before. Not sure if you know it but don't underestimate the Delaware. It can get pretty rough. Once you get to the ICW you will not have issues. It is nicely protected and you will have no problems with your draft. The rest is just timing.

We've taken our R25 all the way down and up the ICW a couple of times already on vacations. It is a beautiful trip and you will love it. Let me know if you want some ideas for places to anchor or stay too.

Doug

My wife and I will be relocating to the east coast in January. We have completely enjoyed the company and friendship of the Pacific Northwest Ranger Tug family. We will be bringing our Ranger 29, Shared Dream, to be moored in the Chesapeake. The actual location is something to be worked out. We had a great time cruising on the Points North cruise (600 nm) into Canada. The experience of the breath taking scenery and wildlife, navigating with 14 to 17 ft tide changes and narrow passages that are famous for their ability to generate significant current, large whirlpools, and confused water are memories that we will always cherish. This trip (although I know nothing about the local waters) sounds like a wonderful opportunity. We would love to discuss the details with anyone so we could sieze the opportunity to join in and extend our Ranger Tug experience and friendship.

Shared Dream,
Welcome to the Chesapeake Bay. With the bay being about 200 miles long and 30 miles at it's widest, and over 150 rivers and streams creating over 11,000 miles of shoreline, there is lots of boating and fishing available here. Lots of good hunting is available also. You did not say what part of the bay you are moving to. Here is information on boating in Maryland:
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/boating/
and here is information about boating in Virginia:
http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/boating/

There are about 30 or so Ranger Tugs (and growing) on the bay. Not that many owners are active on TugNuts, yet. But interest is growing.

If you could let us know what area you are moving to, maybe we could give you some more information.

Bill Boyer: Please accept our commitment to attend the 2011 NERTR in Essex this June. During the purchase process of our R25, TUGETHER, last Spring, we discussed with Peter Haywood at Winter Island Yacht Yard, the possibility of a NE rendezvous, as it seemed the PNW was getting all the fun. And, so here we are! Wonderful! We cannot wait to make it a cruise from our slip in Wickford, RI to Essex to experience the festivities. Keep us posted as to fees, seminars, etc. One idea would be to have all attendees talk and show of the personal add-ons they've installed on the various size RT's. If you have a diesel maintenance seminar, please include the Cummins 150. Cooking on board; First aid on board. Lookin' forward to June. Kit and Ginny Sears, Woodstock, CT (Monty the standard poodle will have to stay home for this one.)

Tug A Lug:

By any chance do you keep your boat at Brewer's Wickford Cove? If so you can stay at Brewer's Dauntless
Shipyard, free as part of Brewer's membership package, literally a fairways distance from Essex Island Marina. You can dink over, or take the 30 second ferry ride.
Julia and I keep Folie A deux at Brewer's in Mystic and will be staying at Dauntless for the Rendezvous.
( IMHO "E" dock has the nicest views ).

Chris

Chris, No, we are at Wickford Marina in Wickford, RI, a small marina w/ a clublike atmosphere w/ a mix of power and sail. Kit

Hi Bill Boyer, "Brady's Bunch" plans on attending the New England Ranger Tug Rendezvous. Don't know if my wife will be there as it looks like the school year might be extended to July 4th with all the snow days we are having in Western Connecticut. Anyhow if any other "Tugnuts" will be traveling from the west and need a place to stop over on route, the Housatonic Boat Club where we keep our R25 is about 50 miles from Essex. See you in the Spring if it ever comes. Ed & Alice Brady

Was speaking to Bill Boyer of Wilde Yachts the other day. He said he has not had much feedback on ideas for the June 2011 NE Rendezvous. He said that Wilde Yachts was the main sponsor but it was generally up to us to request what type of activities we would like to have. So if anyone has any good ideas please pass them on to Bill. Thanks
Ed Brady, Brady's Bunch R25

Hi to the Eastern Gang,
I hope all is going well for your rendezvous. If you are having problems with the planning, you might want to look at the forum index under PNW Rendezvous 2009, 2010and 2011 and see what was done at Bremerton with the Northwest group. David and Maureen did an outstanding job of organizing and planning our events, both of them were memorable.
We hope you enjoy your time together as we did.
Bob and Nita
