Greetings,

Our 2011 R29 is new to us and I have been checking everything out.

I was lying down checking the oil from inside the salon engine cover. The oil dipstick on the forward port side with a red handle I found and checked.

Then on the very lower Starboard side there is another dipstick also with a red handle, the dipstick on that is only about 4 inches long. I have not read anything about this second dipstick with a red handle.

What is this small dipstick on the lower forward Starboard side?

It did have a red handle so is it to check oil? Why would there be two points to check the oil?

Are there more dipsticks that I should be looking for other than the red handled oil one and the orange handled gear dipstick?

The information on line that I have found has not mentioned the dipstick on the lower Starboard side, unless I missed it!
I know the gear dipstick has an orange handle.

I appreciate the help from everyone, our boat had no manuals when we purchased it so I have been digging them up on line the best I can. I'm learning fast but it sure is a lot different than my 24' North River with a Yamaha OB.

Once again thanks everyone and stay safe in these crazy times.

Regards,

Dave

The Yanmar 4BY2 and 6BY2 engines are marine conversions of BMW diesel auto engines. As part of the conversion theYanmars ended up with two dipsticks. One is forward in the port side and one is aft on the starboard side of the engine. The one on the port side will read slightly lower oil than the one on the starboard side due to the slight aft low tilt of the engine when the boat is in the water. Make sure both dipsticks are in tight as part of your checklist before starting the engine.
