We will be offering two seminars this winter. The first seminar, Cruising 101, will be offered on Saturday March 19th. This seminar is designed for new boaters or for those that want a refresher course on safe boating. The second seminar, Cruising the Pacific Northwest, will be offered on Sunday March 20th. This seminar will focus on navigation, piloting and creating itineraries to cruise the San Juan Islands and the Inside Passage. The seminars will be held in Everett, Wa. Captain Mac Lamay will lead the seminars. He and his wife Linda have traveled the Inside Passage to Alaska twice in their Ranger R25. Captain Mac is also a Floatilla Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and holds his 50 ton Captains license. We appreciate Mac putting these seminars together for our Ranger Tug family. Please respond to this post if you would like to register for the seminars. We will also have a sign up sheet at the Seattle Boat Show. Limit 30 people per day. Seminars are free to Ranger Tug owners.

Jorge and I are interested in signing up for Sunday March 20!

Jeff,
Please add the crew of Blessings for the seminar on March 20, Thanks Fernie & Sunny

Jeff,

This is perfect. Please sign the Circle T crew up for both days.

We're considering having the Circle T trailered from LA up to the PNW for the cruising season and had even tentatively decided that Everett Marina might be the perfect place to rent a slip as a home base during that time. So the seminars are both timely and exactly what we need to review and learn. Plus we'll be able to check out the marina first hand.

I don't know if we'll be the only out-of-towners, but if you have any recommendations on hotels we'd appreciate hearing.

Thanks very much,
Tym & June

MY wife and I will attend both days. We presently have our boat in Alameda, CA but we are in the process of mobving it to Anacortes. Jim

Do you have the capacity to conduct a "webinar"?

You could really expand your audience!!

We are interested in both seminars (Sat & Sun). We're new to cruising and are shopping for a used R-21 Ranger Tug.What would be the cost? Is there room left for two more?

Thanks,

Hello Tugnuts,

Captain Mac has been busy preparing our seminars for Saturday March 19th and Sunday March 20th. These seminars are designed to help get us ready for the upcoming boating season! On Saturday March 19th the class is cruising 101. Cruising 101 is an introduction to boating on your Ranger Tug or Cutwater Boat. It is also a great refresher for those that have already taken Captain Mac’s class. This class also covers the information that is needed to get your boaters education card. On Sunday March 20th the class is Cruising the Pacific Northwest. Captain Mac has been to Alaska twice in his Ranger R25. He will share pictures of his cruises and adventures. Some of the items that we will discuss in this class include anchoring, heavy weather, preparation for short and long cruises, and charting an itinerary for our summer Desolation Sound Cruise. These two days will be packed with great information!

There are several books that Captain Mac will refer to during the seminars. The Douglass series and Dreamspeaker series are great resources for cruising the Pacific Northwest to Alaska. Fine Edge, the publisher of these books, has put together some special pricing for us. We will have samples of these at the seminar. You can also order them for pick up at the seminar by going to the following website http://www.fineedge.com/tugnuts/ Please bring a pad of paper and a pencil for taking notes. If possible, not required, you might want to bring your cruising guides, charts, plotting tools and a tide/current book that cover any or all of the areas from the San Juans to Desolation Sound. It will be helpful when we plan the Desolation Sound cruise itinerary.

The seminars will be held from 9:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M at Milltown Sailing Club in Everett, WA. http://www.milltownsailing.org/contact-us Coffee and pastries will be provided. We will break for lunch at noon.

Please send an e-mail to jeffmessmer@rangertugs.com if you are unable to attend either of the seminars that you have signed up for. RSVP REGRETS ONLY.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

Ranger Jeff

Jeff: Those book series you mentioned even with the 15% discount is a lot of brass. Can you or Capt. Mac be more precise as to what book(s) in those series are absolutely necessary for the two classes.

The Dreamspeaker books 1 through 6 at $42.45 ea. comes to $254.70 + Sales tax. The Douglas series is even more expensive. Combining these two series amounts to over $500.

Thanks.... -Barry

Thanks for the question - You do not need any books for the classes.

I will have my copies, and some others will undoubtably have them as well.

There are big differences in what the cruising guides offer (aside from the obvious geographic differences). I plan to talk a little about this during the seminar on day 2. It all depends on what you want, and I hope I can explain the advantages/disadvantages to each....

I'd bet you already have Waggoner - so please bring it if you do.

Oh, and there are even more things you might like to buy.....welcome to boating!

Mac
