Has anyone tried running a 4 blade prop on the Yanmar similar to the one used on the later model
Volvo? A prop shop is talking w/ Acme & is going to get back to me.

I would be interested on how you make out with the 4 blade can you update when you can.

Waiting to hear from the prop shop & Acme

You might want to talk to Yanmar about that as well. You don't want to over torque the engine/transmission. The redesigned tugs have a different hull design/engine combination to accommodate faster cruising, thus the 4 bladed prop.

Hi there I was interested to find out what you learned about switching to a 4 blade prop. I have the same boat/engine combo and I wanted to get a new prop before my haul out in the spring. I normally travel slow and efficient so want a better push in low to mid range. We tow a heavy skiff so don't run hard except for a few minutes here and there.

Here is the 4 blade prop that was recommended by Acme/ a prop shop in Chicago:

ACME 2434 18 RH 17 4 BL CUP NI 1.5
I have not installed it yet, so I don't have any answers.

Thanks very much for the update. Based on my experience from outboard prop sizing I was thinking it would be a 18x18 or a 18x17 to switch to a 4 blade so I think this will work well. Hopefully it gives the performance we are looking for. I'm not too concerned about the high speed I just want a little more power at my cruising speed and to handle the extra weight we normally take with us on trips.
