All the Ranger Tugs at the 2013 Seattle boat show had hull-color-matched propane lockers mounted on the swim step. They looked good! But it appears that putting them there is a change from past years. Am I right that the propane locker used to be under the cockpit seat area? The boarding ladder was on the starboard side of the swim step, so the natural path was to go up on the step an then right right through the cockpit door. I didn't think to walk from starboard to port on the swimstep to see how much the propane locker might be in the way of passage or might seem to interfere with general utility of the swim step. Any thoughts about the pluses and minuses of this change?

You must have just left the boat show! I walked the swimstep much to the amusement of the Ranger team while visiting our purchase several times. There seems to be enough room to open the rear rail gate and also move across the stearn. Having the rear rail adds security while passing the propane locker. With the limited storage on board I think its great to have the cockpit seat available for other storage and we also liked the idea of having propane and gas cans as far from the cabin/engine compartment as possible. Its also in a good location for hooking up a gas grill on the rail. I sort of figured that if we put a dingy on the back that has standoffs that connect to the rail above the locker area, that the rods will affect walking the length of the swimstep more than the small locker does anyway. Also any outboard mounted to the rails might limit back and forth traffic anyway. Ive been looking at various ways to add storage on the boat and look forward to seeing how everyone has outfitted their tugs. Im also discovering that naming a boat requires more thought than naming a child!!

Ah, the purchaser of the R25sc!! We saw your wife, and possibly you, at the show in passing. Ryah and the rest of the team were so excited about your purchase 😀

Your insight into the placement of the propane locker is really helpful. What sort of tank is in it? I take it that it can be easily connected to a propane grill. I didn't realize that. In that case, as you point out, it works well for a grill mounted on the rail. And the added storage is great.

When do you take delivery? How excited you must be!! And good luck with the naming -- yes, very challenging.

The display 25 had two propane tanks and a one gal gas can in it, I believe they are 5 or 7 lb cylinders (same shape as the one on your bbq at home but smaller). One tank is plumbed to the stove leaving another for use as spare, a bbq or a propane outboard.

Excellent points all. Vicki and I chose to keep the swim step clear and have the propane locker under the seat. She thinks I am clumsy...found enough storage for all lines and wash down hoses sufficient with propane locker. We have a 2 up Honda outboard mounted on the swim step rails and the Ranger dingy on Weaver davits. So far, this option works well for us.

Is the hull-color-matched propane locker mounted on the swim step an optional item ?

yes it is optional, if you choose the propane stove upgrade,it includes propane box
with two tanks.

I could be totally wrong on this . . . but I think, effective with the 2013 models, the propane stove is standard, as is the swim step mounted propane locker. But like I said, I could be totally wrong.

I dont know, I ordered a 2013 R27 with the propane stove as an option, the spec sheet still reflect the upgrade.

Hi all,
We have no propane stove/oven on board as we are having all things electric 😀 and it is no extra cost from the factory. 🙂

Propane used to be an upgrade. It is now standard, but you can have electric instead. No cost difference any more. Or at least, no money back to the buyer for electric.
