Need some help. 2013 Ranger R21 Yammer . Only 35 hrs. Starts smoking blue after about 15 minutes out on the water. Back at the dock no smoke. It is using oil. No blowby when I pull dipstick or remove oil cap. Any ideas
Thank you

A blinking red alarm went off in my head reading this.
One route for crankcase oil to get into the cylinders is the bearing seal on the turbo.
If this fails during engine run the engine WILL run away until it destroys itself (no matter what you do from the cockpit)
Assuming your R21 has a turbo I would not even start this engine again until a Yanmar mechanic can inspect the turbo.
If it does not have a turbo you can safely go back to ignoring me

Hi njautoandtruck,

As Levitation mentioned, it's probably best to get a technician onboard who can figure out why oil would be entering the combustion chamber. Blue smoke is normally the result of engine oil entering and burning inside the combustion chamber. I've also seen this caused by worn/leaking injectors or restrictions in the air intake system. This is usually on engines with many more hours than yours, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check into before digging into the engine.

Feel free to give me a shout directly with any other questions or concerns that I can help with.

Thank you,

-Tim
