Marina is giving me grief over the 110 OEM shore power receptacle. They claim it's not to code and requires a screw in or locking waterproof connection. Glad to change the receptacle to a "smart plug" or EEL. But electrician claims I need a breaker and a panel installed. No room. Can you offer any advice?

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association and several others require locking waterproof shore power connectors and circuit breakers. NMEA permit substitution of an inline fuse and Ranger uses this on some boats when the breaker is furthe from the inlet than permitted.

Ask your electrician about an in-line fuse.

Inline twist lock cord sets are responsible for serious electrical incidents. Use a Smart Plug or convert to one if you have a twist lock.

What year is your boat? I thought the ELCI requirement has only come out a few years ago. Looks like the marinal is looking for the positive connection. Do you need an electrician to switch out to a Smart Plug? If not switch it out and make your marina happy and have the safety of the Smart Plug. If someone is really intent on the ELCI try this. http://www.gfcistore.com/30-amp-inl...rQ6engw8Bd0V8U04_SRtlPRzk3QLoYacaAuYQEALw_wcB
