Is it possible for a mechanic to change the timing belt without lifting the motor?

Thanks for asking this question. I would like to know if this is possible as well. I have only heard of others having to have the engine pulled in order to replace the timing belt. It would be a great service to R25 and R27 Volvo Penta owners to know if there is a viable alternative.

Don't know about a RT27, but on an 2014 RT25SC it is very doable changing the timing belt with the D3 engine in the boat. I did not watch my mechanic do the job and not sure of the words that were said during the process, however my mechanic did not complain to me after the task was over.

Thanks for that info. Would you mind sharing the hours/cost?

I had mine done last week. Labor was $1300. I purchased the kit with the belt and tensioner for $398. So a little over $1700.

Chimo,

My labor cost was included with other work so I don't have the labor cost to replace the belt/tensioner. In addition, Volvo recommends to replace the coolant circulating pump when replacing the timing belt.
