Easy solution that will also allow you to change out the serpentine belt as well without killing yourself. I cut the wall between the quarter berth and the engine compartment, making an access "hatch". Remove the step into the quarter berth, remove the fuzzy cloth covering on the wall, and using an oscillating tool cut a section of the fiberglass and plywood wall. I made a hole about 15" wide. Behind the wall is a thick layer of foam insulation. Use a sharp knife to cut a couple of vertical slits in this and then lift it up. The alternator will be in front of you and easily accessed. You can replace the cut out section into the hole after you are done, the insulation will keep it in place. I covered the entire area with 1/4" pvc wainscotting screwed into the wall and into the cut out plywood which also will keep things together. My transducer is also located in this area and can also be easily accessed. Just make the access hole big enough to get your tools into the area, especially the torque wrench.
Good Luck.
