Our 2016 Cutwater 24OB has gas charged lift supports on the center cockpit hatch, to make it easier to open and close. We have had ongoing problems with these lift supports (struts) loosing their lifting power with time. When using struts with higher force ratings, increased from 60 lbs to 90 lbs, the starboard strut pops off from the ball-type fittings on the hatch cover or on the interior sides of the cockpit. Have others had similar problems? Were you able to solve the problems?

I've had similar problems with gas struts on autos and other equipment. Most of the time it's due to trying to use the old end, the spring clip seems to were out and loses its ability to lock to the ball joint once removed. You can purchase new strut ends on line (AMAZON) you will need the size of the ball joint and thred size. Good luck. BOB
