2016 NE Ranger Tugs Get-Together: New Bedford, MA Aug 12-14
It’s a little late in the season to put together a Rendezvous – but some of us would still like to get together, share some stories, check out the latest projects and just have fun. There is still time to plan that.
We still have time to put together a more casual, less scheduled get together for as many or as few as would like to do this. Pope’s Island Marina in New Bedford, MA has everything we need – and more. We won’t collect fees from you and you will be making your own reservations at the marina. As of this morning, we know we can get at least 10 boats on the same dock. There are also 2 nearby launch ramps (with room to park truck and trailer for $7 a day) for anyone who wants to come by trailer.
Here’s what we could do:
Arrive Friday August 12.
Pot luck dinner that night.
Saturday morning: some kind of casual breakfast – (the local Dunkin Donuts will even deliver to the docks) and/or order coffee and donuts from the local Dunkin Donuts
Saturday afternoon – Some events. We can probably get a Garmin rep, maybe Peter Haywood could talk knots,. Suggestions anyone? Anyone want to volunteer to be in charge of something? There is also a lot to enjoy in and around New Bedford.
Saturday Night: Dinner at a local restaurant – in large or small groups or on our own
Sunday - Spend as little or as much time before heading home.
So, who in? Let start talking. Time is of the essence so look over the links supplied and decide. Please post on TN if you are going to attend so we may adjust for the number of slips needed. Thank you to Winter Island Yacht Yard and Mike Rizzo for advice and encouragement in putting this together. If you wish to email me directly: decaro47@msn.com.
I received this email from Penny after we spoke. They host many boat clubs and groups throughout the year and have great knowledge of the area.
Hi John,
It was great speaking with you today. We are really looking forward to having the Ranger Tug Group with us this summer. New Bedford has done a great job connecting the waterfront to downtown. Take a short Launch ride and you can stroll the cobblestone streets, visit The Whaling Museum, shop or enjoy one of the many restaurants, galleries and museums. We are America’s #1 fishing Port again this year so fresh seafood is plentiful. There are two launch ramps in the Harbor. The Park Motors Ramp in Fairhaven is the closest to the Marina.
The members of your group can call and make a reservation, visit our website www.popesislandmarina.com or visit www.dockwa.com.
You can check out New Bedford at www.destinationnewbedford.org and the Whaling Museum at www.whalingmuseum.org
Please feel free to contact me with any questions by email or on my cell at 508-989-1195.
Happy boating,
Penny
