Lisa and I have organized the Ranger Tugs/Cutwater Rendezvous in Little Current for the last two years however for 2016 we'll be in the PNW and unable to do so. The good news is that John on Wanderer, a long time cruising veteran of the North Channel, has brought up the idea of leading a North Channel cruising event this summer. You'll most likely hear from John on this post with his ideas, plans, dates, etc., for a 2016 summer event so you can start to make your upcoming cruising plans.

I just spoke with John and here are his initial ideas for us to start discussing and expressing an interest in on this post.

from John in PM to me that he ask me to start the thread on:

Since I will be leaving from lake Simcoe this year I propose three possible scenarios.
A summer cruise starting at lake Simcoe to the north channel for July and August. But is suspect not too many are open for that light of time. May be some loopers that will tag along.
Second would be a cruise starting at Lake Simcoe up the last 4 locks and take the small craft route to Killarney. This may take two weeks. I know there are many boaters that are unsure of how to proceed through all the issues presented in this route and would really like to do it with others for support. There are many good anchorages along the way. This would start around July 1 weekend, allowing for the weekend rush to pass before entering the locks. Car and trailer shuttle presents an issue. Some may turn back at some point and return to Lefroy for the takeout.

The last cruise would be from little current, a week east and a week west to explore the out of the way anchorages. Launch at spider bay. We can explore Mcgregor bay, to the east and over as far as long point cove at John island to the west. This will start around the end of July. Anchor inn would be the meeting point for the first, middle and last day.
I will organize the skipper meetings chart review, boat issues etc. normal radio net each morning at 9 when not in the north channel and just prior to Roy when in the NC. Normally we use VHF 72 Roy uses 71. There will be opportunity for hiking, shore parties, Bon fires, happy hour parties, dinghy exploration and compare boat mods etc. At the anchorages.
Focus of all three will be weighted to anchorages over marinas. Stops for pumpouts, restaurant meals and supplies as needed.

Date will be firmed up later.

Tell John what your thoughts and or interests are.

Sounds like a lot of fun, that is a terrific cruise. We will be leaving the boat west this year so we will be unable to make the North Channel rendezvous this summer.
Jim and Lisa thank you so much for initiating this wonderful event two years ago. It was our first ever Rendezvous and we made new friends there we bonded with, and revisited at docks in Florida, and later back in Ontario. The information and insight gained at these events is fantastic. If anyone is reading this and is on the fence about attending this or any rendezvous, do yourself a big favor and go. Even if you cannot get there with your boat, go. You will meet a great like minded fun group of boaters

There are two parts to the 2016 Ranger Tug/Cutwater cruise.

The first is a cruise through the small craft route from Lefroy Harbour on Lake Simcoe, our local Ranger Tug dealer, to Killarney. This should begin around July 1, and should take 2 weeks. This will allow ample opportunity to explore the many anchorages along the way. The pace will be slow with many days where we run only 20 miles.

Part two will start the last part of July at Little Current. The first night will be at the dock while everyone gets setup. Depending on numbers we can either have a pot luck dinner in the pavilion or reserve a big table at the anchor inn. The next morning we will have a skipper meeting in the pavilion and decide which direction to travel for the first week. We will return to Little Current at the end of a week for supplies, and spend the night in port. Again we can do dinner as the first night. The second leg of this cruise will be in the other direction. For both weeks we will explore the many isolated anchorages looking for locations that allow us to have shore excursions, places with fire pits, etc. As with the first cruise the days will be short to maximize the time to visit and share travel stores. Having Little Current stop over in the middle would give those with limited time a chance to do either the first week or the second.
Please place your comments in this series of posts for all to see. Suggestions for actual dates, any specific anchorages you would like to visit, should be added here.
Please send me your information when you are ready to "sign up", or at least tentative, I would need all your contact information and boat info. Also how long you can go before needing a pump out, and water, we can then plan marina stops as needed.

Jim did a wonderful job the past two years, we thank him for all the time he put in to make the rendezvous profitable for all. Jim is not able to be with us as he will be cruising the best salt water area in the world. But we will be sailing in the best fresh water area in the world. When we meet with him again we can compare notes!

We hope you can make Georgian Bay and the North Channel part of your 2016 summer.
All the best and safe sailing.

Reminder for the 2016 North Channel cruise. If you are interested in cruising the areas of Georgian Bay and the North Channel we have planned this in two parts one starting in Lake Simcoe at Lefroy Harbour, a Rwnger Tug Dealer, and head up the very beautiful east shore of Georgian Bay. Arriving at Little Current. After a time to re-supply we will cruise the less traveled anchorages of the North Channel. Each cruise will be two weeks. The first beginning the first week of July and the second the last week of July. Please send your contact information to john dot manson at sympatico dot ca

More details will follow once we have an idea on the preference and limitations of each boat
There will be plenty of time to share ideas, assistance in navigation and anchoring. There will be pertly of time for shore meals and happy hour get togethers.
Hope you can make to the 2016 NC cruise!

We are presently on the Great Loop in Florida moving north and have not a clue at this time when we will be in Trenton. However, if the timing works out we would be interested in whatever would work.

Good new, we will plan on meeting at Lefroy Harbour on lake Simcoe. If you contact Ryan, at Lefroy, when you are in the area they could provide any support you may need. They have a good service team, and a full service marina. Being the Ranger Tug dealer they can assist you if needed. There is also an excellent restaurant on the property, We hope to leave around July 1 weekend. The date will be firmed up when we see how many are leaving from there. Please keep in touch as you get closer.

Looking forward to joining the rendezvous up in the North Channel. Please put us on the list . We are currently docked at Lefroy on our new Ranger Tug.

When will the rendezvous at Little Current be held? Our Ranger Tug is still a few years off, but we could drive up if we can fit it into our schedule.

Thanks,
Ron

We will be cruising this summer and should arrive at little current for the day on August 3. I will be sailing from lake Simcoe starting July 1 and should cross your place a few days later.

If there is an 2017 version of the North channel next year, we will be there...

John, how was the gathering? I have not seen any feedback yet.

Just got home and cleaning up the tug. We started at Lake Simcoe July 1 and arrived in the north channel 17 days later. Had no takers to go with us through the small craft route but one tug did do it the easy way and came up the peninsula. We met up with the other tugs at the anchor inn in little current August 3rd for dinner. There were 15 people for dinner and it was great to meet the other tugs. There were 8 tugs in total. The next day four of us travelled together to the west eventually getting to long point cove. Annie on Gentle Lady had to head back to little current to do Roy's cruiser net broadcast so left the group when we turned west from oak bay. After Long Point Cove we made a quick hop down to Gore bay for fuel and pump outs and lunch by the docks. The go fast tug, Evolve and Bucket list, ran on ahead at 10 knots while Wanderer followed 30 minutes later at 6 knots. The fast boats had to wait in the bay for the fuel dock to clear out so in the end we all arrived for fuel at the same time. Then we met up again at Darch island were we enjoyed dinner on the beach. We split up from there when Evolve and bucket list went to explore Mcgregor bay. We met up a few days later met up again at mill lake. Many time along the way and at anchorage people stopped by to admire the tugs. One sail boat even took pictures of us all as we passed by. They share them with us when we visited them at long point cove.
The weather was great. But better still was the friends we made as we shared stories and meals at anchor.
Next year more boats should join us in Little Current for a bigger rendezvous and we can set out and explore more anchorages of the north channel!

Thanks for the reply John, sounds like you guys had a great trip, I wish that we could have being there...
